Plenty of inspirational cars here today, at the Centenary celebrations of the Austin 7. Over 1000 sevens expected over the next few days, at Prescot hillclimb with them tomorrow.

The twin cams are due on site in the next day or so.

Who cares that it's nearly 40° in the shade, and there's no shade.

I wish I was there to see them, as was the original plan!

The Prescott event is being live streamed:

Most importantly I caught up with the car that started it all today.

Dad brought home a wreck, which I helped him restore, and which was with me through the formative years of my life, I learnt to drive in it, went courting in it, and had so many adventures. Sadly it had to go, almost 50 years ago to the day, it looks like one of us has aged better than the the other.
A truly moving experience meeting back up with Primrose today.

Looking forward to seeing the twin cams going up the hill tomorrow.

Currently waiting for some metal to bolt the engine down to, so I decided to have another day poncing around with stuff that doesn't really get me further to a rolling chassis, - but it makes me happy.

Started with a few mods to the dummy twin cam engine cover to get it fitting more snugly, but there's still the elephant in the room of a steering column sticking out the back of it. I don't think there's much I can do to disguise it, other than to paint it black.

Then it was on to the brake drums, they are quite distinctive,

and I've been looking for a solution for several months, I finally sorted it a week or so ago, with some £1 pizza trays that seem to fit the bill. So it was out with the tank cutter to get some big holes drilled.

Just got to spend another whole pound on the inner half now.

I also picked up some genuine A7 sidelight shells at the Centenary celebrations

these will be used to make the overtaking mirrors on the side of the scuttle

this means that the cyclekart will have more genuine A7 parts on it than the twin cam racers!

Meanwhile on the constructive front the engine and gearbox layout is all now sorted, just awaiting some plate material to make mounting brackets.

Looking good Peter, like the engine cover and the brake drums. BRILLIANT WORK. Graham.

A bit more progress today, the scuttle is getting a bit of shape into it

and at the other end the transmission sub-frame is out and starting to get components permanently mounted.

I know how you feel, Peter. I went to Portugal, supporting my partner who was singing in a festival, and all the time away, I was thinking how I was not getting on with the build. But enjoy your break.

Back from holiday, I thought I would get an hour or so in and finally sort the steering, however you  rotten swines didn't tell me that there was a fundamental problem with the set-up I pictured a few weeks ago......

Turning the wheel right makes the wheels turn left! - back to the drawing board - the Pittman arm needs to hang down, not a major problem, but it wasn't the start I wanted. :)

Could be worse, you could have discovered it after you arrived at a meeting, not that anyone else has done that (ahem).

I predict a long and honourable future for your cyclekart.   In my case, it was a last minute (literally midnight before travelling to Stretton) "upgrade" to add a reduction gear to my steering.  I just couldn't get it all to fit, so turned it upside down, which made it fit wonderfully.

Struggling with Covid at the moment, but things are starting to feel a bit better, so today I went out into the garage to see if I could get some progress on the transmission.

Managed to get brackets made and fitted to the reverse box, and it's now mounted, - seems to be solid enough, again time will tell.......

And more to the point, when I popped the engine into its intended position it all seems to line up, so fingers crossed.

Having emptied the garage temporarily, to get the boiler serviced, I am now able to start reassembling the cyclekart.
It will need a strip down and reassemble  for paint, once I know nothing falls off, but I'm finding I am getting distracted by detail at the moment, so if I manage to roll the cyclekart please take the time to admire the aluminium bracing on the underside of the chassis, it's the only time you will ever see it. :)
