Bugatti type 35 build
« on: 10 Dec 21, 06:40 pm »
Ok so the time has come to start my build , after doing a bit of recearch i ordered a bunch of bits , Aluminium box section for the chassis , and then from gemini karts i brought a peerless diff , 50 tooth sprocket, hubs, and a front axle.
I have had the last week off so have done my christmas shopping and got a good 4 days in my shed so progress is beeing made!!.

I have Always loved the Bugatti type 35, and after building myself an Austin 7 special over the last two years , i fugured thats the car i want , i intend to build the body all from aluminium seeing as i have all the tools and i have learnt quit a bit from building my Austin body.

Very challenging Nic, that aluminum chassis that is. I'm building a mid-20's Miller 91 and
rather than hand hammer a 'C-channel frame from steel I chose to do it with 4" aluminum
structural channel. Rather than weld the crossmembers in, I'm bolting all of them as was
done on the original cars.
Keep those pictures coming, even though I'm thousands of miles West of you....I really enjoy
following you guys over there.

Very impressive, I  think I'm going to enjoy this build! I too am using aluminium for the chassis, but like Denny I'm going to have to bolt, as I don't have your TIG skills.

That Aluminium Chassis is looking real sweet along with those lovely looking spring perches, and all lightweight. I need to upgrade my tig set to do Ali and now wish I had along time ago. lol
If you can drive round corners, you're not going fast enough.

Thanks for all your praise on my build , yep im building the whole thing in Aliminium , An ac/dc tigwelder is a good addition to any workshop it takes a bit of practice , there are loads of instructional vids on youtube to help you along.
As for scaling i have taken a plan then worked out some mesurments for the wheel base and body size then adjusted it to fit in with the engine and driver , its never going to be a perfect scale replica.

Well i did'nt get any build time during Christmas, but this afternoon i got back to the  building.
working out the engine mounting and drive train, im having to use an idler sprocket on the top of the chain to prevent it hitting the crankcase , that will be the next bit to make..

So a bit more progress on the Bugatti .
The body work requires louvers so i have spent the last couple of weeks making a louver cutting press .
Today i have put it to use today making the lower section , then the floorpan cut out and run through the bead roller to give it some ridgitity. today has been quit a productive day...

Hi all, well i have spent many hours in my shed recently and my kart is coming along quite well, some days you spend time working on your kart and not much progress seems to happen and some days things come together.
The accelerator and brake pedals involved a lot of head scratching i spent quite alot of time pondering how to make them, i wanted to make them adjustable so kids can drive the kart, so i came up with the idea of mounting the pedals on a seat runner, which i shortened, it gives me about 5 inches of movment forward and back , I ran cables for the throttle , then for the brake im useing a cbr600 front braking system, so i modified the brake lever on the master cylinder to allow me to connect a cable to it then ran the cable to the brake pedal .
The fuel tank has also worked out well, as it tucks in just in front of the pedals then the filler runs up to where the radiator cap would be, i made it from 3mm alliy , it holds about 2 ltr which should be plenty, .
It is not far away from its first test run so will have to dismantle it to get it out of my shed and garden then maybe take it to work and test it in the carpark there !!!, where im sure i will find some a few things which will need tweeking !!!!.
