The first layers of GF applied to the inside of the cover....

These strips bond the EML to the steel hoop frame to stop the mesh moving. This is how it looks on the outside...

Where the mat and resin have been applied the "shell" is rigid. The next step is to bond the remaining edges to the steel frame and then complete the inner layer. Once this has cured I can lay mat on the outside. Given how ridged the "shell" is with just one partial layer I'm hoping one layer on the outside with a covering of finishing fabric will be enough.

Any thoughts on that?

Here's the engine cover with two layers of GF matting, one inside and one outside the EML mesh.

Looks OK but disappointingly heavy. The weight must be due to the resin. The whole thing will need blocking off one the resin has cured so with a bit of luck I may be able to [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] reduce the weight by a little bit.

Here's the rear end with what I hope is the final coat of resin before getting a coat of primer....

There is a layer of GF mat on either side of the mesh. After dealing with the many flaws I rollered resin onto the outside to produce an even-ish surface for painting. It won't be a "concours" finish but more along the lines of what bodywork might have looked like after a combative Mile Miglia on 1920's roads  ;D

Some progress on the exhaust using copper pipe bends.

This combination gives the ideal bend to take the pipe down the side of the engine.

This is the exhaust more or less finished...

Not very pretty but it seems to work. I made it from a modified clone muffler box (thanks Stefan), copper bends and some scrap steel pipe. The exhaust manifold is one of Stefan's.

Thanks Chris, that's a relief.
I’ve also looked at this. My intention is to mount the engine assy centre of gravity approx on centreline of the chassis. Putting the engine assy on a roller gives CofG just left of the oil drain bolt - quite close to your photo.

A bit more progress. The 5mm rod has been shaped and welded to the tub frame...

This frame outlines the final shape of the cockpit

Next step is to bite the bullet, buy some alloy sheet and shape it to the tub.

The lower parts for the bonnet have been fabricated and await louvres (when I work out the best way to do it). The photo also shows the chassis front cover plate.

More alloy sheet needed to fabricate the bonnet now.

The engine cover is finished

So some progress but I'm months behind where I wanted to be by now all thanks to the filthy weather we've been having.
