That's the steering complete,  just need to get some new bolts and sleeve the threaded rod with tube.
On full lock the wheel stops just short of hitting the spring, so more than happy with the lock.

Couldn't put this off any longer,  let the itchy, smelly,  dusty work begin.
First step, cover up the work area. With out a doubt,  you WILL make a mess.
I screwed a peice of 3/4 ply to the back of the buck just to lift it up off the table.

For the first layer i used some coarse chopped mat, the second and third layers are fine woven cloth.

Third layer and an extra coat of resin applied.

The garage was a little cold,  had to rig up a makeshift oven.

Buck removed and the rough edges trimmed off. Buck came out easier than I had expected,  must have been the three coats of pva release agent.

Quick sand to find the high and low spots.

After a full day of filling and sanding the grill is starting to take shape.

You know you are getting somewhere when things start turning black.

Wanted to get a coat of paint on the chassis before I started to fit the bodywork and floor pan.

Was thinking about putting some stone chip on for extra protection.

Looking sweet Noel, I age those cabinets in your garage as 1974, a style I predict will be in fashion again shortly, I ripped many of them out. ...
Have you got a goal for your completion date?

I think you're right Jim about the age, they are still as strong as the day they were made, not like the modern rubbish.
No goal as of yet, just when its done.

Down side of sharing the garage with the wife, she was not too impressed with the over spray on the washing.

Big step forward today,  made a good start to the body work.  Feels a bit more like a cyclekart now.

A little more progress today,  got the lower panels on the opposite side fitted and made a start on shaping the top section of the bonnet.  What I wouldn't give for an English wheel about now. Its a real workout bending the bonnet over a pipe even when its only 1.5mm aluminium.

That's a bit more like it now.

Thought I was going to have to make myself an English wheel to get the curves in the bonnet.  Then I came across a thing called a pipe anvil, gathered up a few bits of scrap pipe of various sizes (couldn't find anything big enough so used a post) I came up with this. I works really well.

It's been a bit cold out in the garage this last few days so stayed inside and made some new faces for the rev counter,  speedo, etc.

Started out with a set of old gauges from a Skoda Estelle.

Didn't like the black vinyl on the bezels so after a quick soak in thinners and a little metal polish,  I think they turn out well.
