Bentley build
« on: 01 Apr 19, 02:20 pm »
All,

I've finally been embarressed into putting some pictures on here, as I've (slowly) been working away............

Anyway, it's a blower Bentley inspired build, based on a chassis and some bits from cyclekarts.co.uk, karting bits etc etc.

First off the chassis needed some modificiation...........

Like Graham, I had the excitement of using a stick welder on thin steel!

Here's an engine I fancied fitting, although I didn't want rebuild cost................

Then the one I actually fitted.

It was fairly easy at this point, got a gemini front axle (the one supplied had an interesting steering geometry) and their hub carriers.

Then we get to the stub axle, hmmm, for one thing my welding was crap first time around. I think it's fixed, thanks to a hole in the hub carrier to weld through as well. However, the design of the axle led to some issues later with steering set up and play. Think it's fixed now, thanks to different bearings and washer or three......

Now life got interesting, as we got to brakes! I had Kelgate master cylinder and caliper (which I rebuilt) , but I was led to believe I could use a smaller in-line type master cylinder instead. This would have made the pedals simpler, as they came with the chassis etc.

Turns out that is wrong and it wouldn't push enough fluid through. So, a bit of modification was needed to the pedal and success. BTW, I used a Gemini brake disc.

Now to the bit I'm not so confident at, the body. The overall shape is there, I've got the fun(!) of the radiator surround to crack...................
