CKGB Club Inaugural Meeting 5th March 2022
« on: 19 Jan 22, 01:00 pm »
Hi,

I'm pleased to announce an Inaugural Meeting to form CycleKarts GB as a club.

The meeting will be held on Saturday 5th March 2022 from 10:30am at the British Motor Museum.

The agenda for the meeting will be:
- Welcome and introduction.
- Brief overview of the aims of the club
- Vote to adopt the constitution
- Vote to create a bank account
- Vote to elect the committee
- AOB
(short and sweet)

The proposed Constitution and Handbook are attached to this post and have been developed by a small group of people* over the last year. (EDIT: please note this version of the Handbook is out of date and hence has been removed to avoid confusion.)

To vote, you will need to be a member.  The proposed cost of membership is £30 for this year - for which you'll get the warm glow of knowing that you are helping to promote cyclekarting.   The money will help to pay for websites and other promotion as well as the paraphernalia that so far, people have kindly dipped into their own pockets for.  There are also likely to be events that the club is invited to which will only be open to members.

It would be helpful to know ahead of the inaugural meeting, who intends to join the club.  Please could you email CKGBclub@gmail.com before 20th Feb 2022 to confirm your intention to join.  Bank details for payment etc will be sent out after the club has been formed.

The club will need a committee to run it.   If you would like to stand to join the Committee, please complete the attached nomination form and email it to CKGBclub@gmail.com before 20th Feb 2022.   The committee can have up to 6 people on it.   If more than 6 nominations are received, the committee will be elected by a vote at the Inaugural Meeting.

If COVID means we can't meet in person then the meeting will be held on Zoom and details will be published here.

If you can't attend but would like to, then please let us know via CKGBclub@gmail.com asap and we'll do our best to arrange an online connection or voting by proxy.

* Graham Hill,  Graham Appleyard, Andy Boulton, Geoff May, Marek Nahajski, Chris Slade, Jim Tanner, Stefan Nahajski, plus contributions from others who have brought ideas, enthusiasm and encouragement.

Well done all those involved.
The documents shown, in my insignificant opinion are very sound and well considered.
As you have said that a member must be financial to have a voice (or participate in events) how can payment be made ahead of the meeting?
We must avoid torturing our brains with false problems, it occupies but it can annoy. In jest!

No need for payment ahead of time this year - just email confirmation of intent to become a member.  Inaugural meetings can be a little bit “chicken and egg” in their proceedings.

Hello, All,

This sounds exciting and well-organised. I'd love to join, eventually, both in support of your club and as my plan is to shift my CycleKarts your way, at some point in the next couple of years.

In California, there can be some nice benefits to forming a recognised club, such as the ability to use spaces which might otherwise be off-limits to an individual. Also fiddly crap such as insurance, better recognition from city-dads/cops, etc. Is this also similar in the UK?

Hi Mike, I am sure you would be most welcome to join the club and shift your cyclekarts my way lol. The club should hopefully open doors, get respect and recognition from some of the event organisers around the country. Insurance is a minefield but may be needed in the future. If you ever want to ship a kart over I can find space to store it for you.
If you can drive round corners, you're not going fast enough.

Jim:
Thank you! I suspect it'll be a couple of years before we pack some containers, as we are still exploring areas. We'll get there, though...Or somewhere!

Good to see a flurry of new interest on this site with people getting excited about CycleKarts.
It would be great to see some further commitment from those interested in becoming full members of the new club. As Stefan points out, a formal club will allow us to share responsibilites and costs fairly going forward.

Yes I want to become a full member, I've read the constitution, and handbook and am happy with both.

Hi Stefan

We met on the builders symposium on Saturday. I'd absolutely like to join.

I'd hope that my vehicle development/durability experience may be of use to other members too.

Will be there on the 5th March.

Kind Regards

Alex Wheatley
