Morning Stefan
I would love to attend the meet but I will be at a welding class that evening. If GDPR allows, can it be recorded and a link given out to members after the event?

Hi Jim,
The welding course sounds fun.  Unfortunately the version of Teams I pay for doesn't allow me to record the meeting I'm afraid - sorry.

Never mind Stefan, I may make my excuses and get off early for that night and try to catch the back end of the meeting if I'm back in time.

Many thanks for organising this Stefan and Committee, - a very useful and interesting evening.

A couple of items from me that might be relevant,

The rear wheels I am using are ANF 125 clones, from Thailand I think, whether they are any good or not remains to be seen, but we'll find out at the first corner.
Bearings required were 37 x 25mm and proved a bit of a trial to source, I seem to recall, but otherwise they seem o.k.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115421011720?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=oKsplXggSZy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=n3Xl8mAaSmy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Fronts were from the same supplier 32x17mm bearings if I recall correctly,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115492114322?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=oKsplXggSZy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=n3Xl8mAaSmy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Around £50 per corner

With regards to the chassis discussion, while I am sure I could have learnt to weld, there are a couple of reasons I might have been interested in a ready built chassis.  Firstly I don't really have the time to start embarking on learning a new skill and buying kit that I might only use once. Then there's the cost of  a new welder, mask, goggles, gas, etc. never mind where to put it.

And finally there's the small matter of risking my neck in a set up I had welded!

In the end, I went down a different route, but from a speed of build, and cost point of view, it would have made good sense had it been available.

I did need some welding, but as Stefan pointed out, there are small fabricators who can help. I had aluminium axle ends TIG welded, a steel front beam axle and steering column welded, and plates laser cut for rear wheel adaptors for around £150, so it's relatively inexpensive.

Thanks again for a great evening, and a useful way for all the lone builders to exchange information and ideas, definitely one for a regular spot in the calendar.

Peter

The cyclekart mentioned at the meet made from ladder parts is this...
https://www.cyclekartclub.com/registry/1939-CycleKart-German-W154VCK.24129/
An interesting build with an extensive build journal.
For anyone interested in TinkerCad, which has its limitations but is a great start to learning 3d cad, I have a file for a scale and full size 212cc engine and a scale and full size TAV file. These can be resized, but as the drawing plane is limited to 1M2 , drawing a full cyclekart needs scaling. Try to copy them and past them into your own account before modifying them so others can use them as is.
Engine

TAV

The TAV is for an inch shaft but can still be paired to the bolt holes in the engine with care. (3/4" shaft)

Many thanks for organising the builders meet last night.

I needed a nudge to get things of the drawing board and start a mock-up.

I will look at the where to get stuff, but see that Motorcycle Products have C90 wheels in stock.

On that topic I could do with a pointer on do I go for all rear wheels, front and rear and do I need a speed take off hub? As I say I will did into the getting stuff site.

Many thanks

Ian

Hi Ian, thanks for the feedback, regarding the wheels, this is a bit of an ongoing debate so perhaps start a new thread as I am sure lots of people will be interested and in the same boat. This can be one of the most expensive parts of the cyclekart especially when you add tubes and tyres on top. The short answer is for some it may simply come down to availability, aesthetics and price. The only reason some people use front and rear C90 wheels as far as I know is they can be bought cheaper in pairs.

For example, if you search for honda cub parts you come across sites like madmunk - I purchased a set of these for my next build which are slightly wider and cater for lots more tyre choices - something else to think about. the quality of spoke is thicker as well than my others. They also include the drums incase you want to have brakes like Geoffs hornet!!!  https://madmunkuk.com/products/bs0610-1-60j-front-1

Whichever route there is enough info and hub mounting solutions to work for them all - hope that helps, let everyone know what you find :)

Hello All, Just a message to thank everyone for participating in the first Online event of 2023 - great to meet you all and Talk the Torque!!! :)

We now want your feedback, we had a couple of logging on problems that have been noted but generally we were very pleased.

What do you want to Talk more about?
The Kart Basics? Wheels, axles, chassis and engine?
Skills - Welding, fibreglassing, fabrication, Moulds, panel making, 3D printing?

Would you be interested in a step by step of how best to get going?

Do you want to know more about the possibility of build plans and a basic chassis?

Or did you just like the open format of chatting with like minded folks and seeing where the conversation goes?

Either way, we are trying to build a like minded group of enthusiasts at CKGB and we want you to succeed in building your karts so the more you tell us the more we can hopefully bring to the table.

Please consider joining if you are thinking of becoming a member https://www.cyclekartsgb.com/join as it will really help us out - this is only all possibly from people giving their time. You can become as involved as you like at future events as we always need help with the events and setting up etc.

from all at Team CKGB - Thanks again and here's to a great season ahead in 2023!!

Happy Building
