Hi folks,
Your last event(s) have great influence on the outcome of the 2021 CycleKart World Championship.
Jim's #8 Dodge is currently a serious contender.

As far as I understand, Oct 26 is the British Club's last event.
That leaves the British at a 10 point deficit compared to to possible total points for the NW-USA and SW-USA regions, where the other championship contenders are from.
To even things out, I'd suggest you format the Oct 26 event in a way that you end up with 2 results.
Maybe a race and a time trial?
Each would be considered a separate event, and worth 10 CKWC points each.

With thing evened out, the Dodge's situation is very good, but it may still come down to The Corona between the Dodge and Dave Dupaquier's #3 Maserati from Washington.

The Maserati is the current world champion, and last year's Corona winner, but 2021 has not been as dominant for it. Dave Dupaquier has not yet done his Corona entry, and rumor is the Maserati is not 100% on power. To top that, there currently are already 3 cyclekarts in the 2021 Corona that have posted speeds higher than the speed that the Maserati won with last year when it was 100%. Dupaquier says he will post a Corona entry before the deadline, but its likely not to be a Top3 speed, so looks like nowhere near maximum points for him. (The 3 faster cyclekarts are from the NW-USA, but are not Championship contenders, they missed too mane events)

But all this to say that it is critical that Jim gets a Corona entry on the board.
I understand the Dodge is not a speed machine like some of the Corona top cyclekarts, but it may score a few points that may end up being just enough to overcome the Maserati's total points.

Its difficult to explain all the different mathematical possibilities for the outcome of the championship, but at this point the British #8 Dodge and the American #3 Maserati are the main Title contenders.

The chart below illustrates the situation.
For easier visualization of the points race situation, it already includes the points for the Corona, based on current positions in the race.

The math possibilities look in the favor of the Dodge, if there are 2 results from Oct26 plus a Corona entry.
If the Maserati really screws up the Corona or is not able to submit an entry at all, the Dodge may not even need a Corona entry, but there is no way to know that before Nov1 (the Corona finish).
So it would be a good idea for Jim to record and submit a Corona entry anyway, just to make sure.

My suggestion is find sometime to do it on Oct26. Dont leave it for later, its too close to Nov1.
Also, it does not have to be done on a straight road as everyone is doing. Of course, that the best type of road for reaching top speed, but if a long straight stretch is not available, use the Whilton Mill circuit. Just drive it for 30 seconds 1 direction, the turn around and come back the same way (no other cars on the circuit, of course!!!). It may not be the best speed but at least is an entry that may give just enough points to overcome the Maserati.

BTW, I'm mostly looking at the Dodge situation, but some of the other British cyclekarts can also benefit from doing the same and get into the Top 5 (maybe even win, but its realistically very unlikely).

Exciting finish to the CKWC ahead!!!

Hi Carlos, It shouldn't be a problem to have a 20 point day at Whilton. We are having 3 different games on the day, the Slalom, the Maybug Medal and the Gosling pickup trophy. We can use two of these for the CKWC points if that's ok. I shall have a go at the Corona over next weekend and I'll make the bracket to hold a camera and phone with the MPH app today at work. (my boss is on holiday) The difficulty with the Corona is finding a suitable bit of road that we can use and not get arrested by the Rozzers. Stately homes quite often have a long straight drive leading to the pile and there are a couple near me that are a possibility. Castle Ashby and Althorpe where princess Diana is buried. Althorpe will likely get the attention of a game keeper who will shoo us off with his shotgun. The only objection from Castle Ashby could be from a hippie waving a banner who is still stuck there in their old bus after a greenpeace festival a few years ago.
If you can drive round corners, you're not going fast enough.

Hi Carlos, I have had a thought about the Corona Challenge - is everybody using the same MPH App on their phones?? if not then really not that accurate as when i have used different ones some are much more accurate. Please let us know what app was used by the latest and we will use it.
cheers

Jim, that all sounds very fun & exciting, cant wait to see how things will unfold.

Andy, The speedometer app I use is called "Cool Links Speedometer". I downloaded it for free from the Google app store. I liked it because it was free and the numbers were big with very contrasting colors. I tested it against my car's speedometer and it matched the speeds. Good enough.

But no, there is no "one" speedometer app to use. Last year I suggested people use the one I use, but many end up using others for personal preference reasons. I don't really want to keep penalizing or disqualifying folks for liking this app over that app so I chose not to enforce a specific app.
I just recommend people chose one that works well and is free.

Its the same with engine prep. I cant control what mods one makes to their engine, or even if they are telling the truth about it. So it does not matter. And its not a matter of everyone trusting the other participants, its more about all participants being open to accept that the others can run whatever they want. Very few cyclekarts reach the speeds needed to win this race, so the vast majority of participants enter knowing they cant win. I'm one of them. I enter to have fun and, hopefully, score some points.

The Corona is above all a fun race, so its important to avoid making it too complicated. The participants are scattered around the world, and people race on their own. The only way this concept can work is if participants don't care about "tech inspections" or "equality". Trying to control such things in this unique scenario is useless and counter productive. I don't want my Corona Race Director job to become an exercise in nitpicking, so I stick to the basics: safety and video quality. If those parameters meet the minimum standard, the entry is almost certain to pass "the scrutiny".

So do it safely & have fun!!!

Hi Stefan, That's a good point as I hadn't thought of that. We'll say clockwise at the moment so Chris Slade can set his drive for that direction.

Planning to bring my Viking's Bentley to Whilton in half completed form next Tuesday.
What time does it all kick off?

I am wearing my sort of vintage stuff and if people want to wear period stuff that's great and we'll have a prize. Also can you please bring a chair if you have one. Not that we get much time in them.. Graham if you can bring your banner that would also be cool. I think a bit vintage ambience has been good at other events.
