God Save the Car
« on: 18 Feb 22, 02:38 pm »
Hello Guys

A friend organizes the Got Save the Car on the mythical circuit of Montlhéry
She invites as a VIP all the CKs who want to ride on this track on Saturday April 9
I know it's very short for the preparation but the Covid has complicated things a bit this year!
If this meeting works well, we will also be invited in 2 years for the 100th anniversary of the Montlhéry circuit.
If you want to meet the French club, let us know on our new Forum : https://cyclekart-france.forumactif.com/t68-god-save-the-car-a-montlhery

See you soon maybe...;)

Hi Fabrice. I wont be able to make it this year (hopefully some others can?) but with your permission will put it onto our calendar for 2024.

Last year at Brooklands I got speaking with a vintage motorcyclist who regularly competes at 'le puy-notre-dame grand prix'. He thought that CycleKarts would be welcome there ..... have you tried?  Tchao.

Hi Andy,

For the moment, it's just an "information"
The organizer will give me more information very soon (accommodation, meals, parking, etc...)
To date, I can announce that our participation is free (we are invited as VIPs) It remains to know the price of meals and accommodation, motorhomes are welcome (with electricity on the campsite, without on the trailer park and cars)

Hi Carlos

Thank you for your help, I hope that this meeting will allow recognition of the Cks in the small world of motorsport...

Hi Graham

So maybe we'll meet again next year!
For Puy Notre Dame, obviously we would like to participate!! But I believe that the regulations are very strict and that unfortunately we are not able to respect (approval of vehicles, authorization to drive on open roads, etc...)
But we remain hopeful ! this year we should do the GP of the ramparts of Angoulême and maybe it will be a gateway to Puy Notre Dame....

Soon
Fabrice

Has anyone done any research on the post brexit rules for trailering competition vehicles? Reference Carnets and Green Cards etc?

I have Chris, in the early days of brexit. As I have to deal with this stuff every working day I am happy to come up with an answer, as things got worse, not better after January 1st this year.
If folks want me to explore this, I am happy to do so. Previous outcome was not well received (or in some cases believed).

As I said I would investigate, I have. Below is an excerpt from Motorsport Uk site, while "we" are not members it put's the information in a nutshell.
I have spoken with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce who issue these carnets for all forms of Motorsport, which we are in the eyes of Customs etc, as we have a vehicle with a motor. They agreed that they would give members of Cyclekarts GB a discount on the fees.
Also suggested was that a permanent chassis plate would ease things.
Essentially a carnet is a document like a passport. You pay for it, £240 odd +VAT, and give a cash deposit of 40% of the value of your car. On leaving UK you have the carnet stamped, on entering the other country stamped again, then the reverse process when coming back, at which point you apply for your cash deposit to be returned, and usually (if you have followed the process) instantly returned. Of course the fee for arranging is not returned.
The only way this can be avoided is if, like Geoff May, you have a registered vehicle , insurance, then get a green card. Green Card can NOT be issued to un registered vehicles, except that trailers have a different set of rules.
You must include in the value any unusually large sets of tools.

On 31 December 2020, the temporary transition arrangements in place between the EU and the UK expired, affecting the movement of motorsport vehicles and equipment to the EU.

Following advice, Motorsport UK understands that an ATA Carnet will be required to temporarily move motorsport vehicles and equipment across the border.

An ATA Carnet is an international Customs document that operates like a passport for your goods.  It allows the temporary importation of goods into countries that are part of the ATA Carnet system (the EU and 40+ additional countries) and avoids you having to pay unnecessary taxes or duties.

ATA Carnets cover all goods that are leaving the UK and returning within a 12-month period.  They do not cover disposable goods (oil, fluids) that will be used while out of the country or items that will not be returning to the UK.

The ATA Carnet simplifies the customs procedure into a single document and makes the importation process much quicker and easier to handle.  To avoid unnecessary border delays and customs checks the carnet should be acquired in advance of travel.

There are two parts to the carnet:

The processing/arrangement fee of the paperwork (VATable)
The premium (non-VATable)
Motorsport UK has secured a special deal with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) for Motorsport UK members of a fixed price processing/arrangement fee of £240+VAT. This is discounted from the standard fee of £330+VAT that non-members of the GBCC would pay.

Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is appointed as part of a network of Chambers around the country to issue ATA Carnets.

The second part of the fee is the Premium. This can either be a refundable deposit of 40% of the vehicle’s value or a non-refundable insurance premium to cover the 40% proportion of the premium.

As an example, if selecting the latter, the insurance premium pricing for £100k of a classic car cover would be a calculation based on 40% of the value and the duration of the carnet.

2 months – £288
6 months – £484
12 months – £624
The vehicle can be transported back and forth regularly throughout the duration of that one carnet.

The calculations behind the premium are based on 40% of the vehicle value, however it is not a sliding scale and is not as simple that a £50,000 carnet would cost half that of a £100k carnet nor that a £200k carnet would be twice the amount.

Applying for ATA Carnets:

Carnets are applied for through an electronic portal called ‘E-cert’ and processed and posted out next day delivery or made ready for same day collection.

Well done Rhys!
It all sounds quite simple when you put it like that, pricey but simple.
Chassis plate with numbers issued by CycleKarts GB sounds a good idea.
I'm not quite as green as I'm cabbage sounding.

I did go back to the Chamber of Commerce to ask something that popped into my peabrain.
"Can we put more than one on a single application" The answer is yes, so the application fee is split across however many cars. The deposit is per car (of course returned if the process is followed). The only thing is that whoever applied has to be prepared that the deposit will be taken in the event of non conforming, and then the applicant's problem to chase the miscreant.
In the words of the man involved, "Depends on how much you trust the other people."
Rather than the insurance cover quoted it would be much better to use a cash deposit, you get that back!

Fabrice, you didn't vote for Brexit! That's what created this, and was always going to.

Thank you for the invitation.   I can’t make it this year but am keen to see if we can arrange something for next year.

Can't we just stick the cyclekart on a trailer and go to France. Its not a motorsport vehicle, its just a recreational fun machine like a jetski or something.
