Stretton Circuit (Leicester). 2019
« on: 13 Jan 19, 02:12 pm »
I called in to have a chat with Nick Lowe at Stretton Circuit last week.
Following our inaugural meeting in September 2018 Nick is still very keen to assist in helping our CKGB group grow. He shows a real enthusiasm for the CycleKart hobby and would like to think that the Stretton Circuit can engage further with our group during it's period of growth.
In this respect Nick is keen to see us make a return visit (or visits) as soon as possible in 2019.
I now understand that our best opportunity for track time is on the first Sunday of every month, which is 'Open Kart Practise Day'. We would be allocated various CK-group time-slots on the track throughout the day. Additionally we would have the use of the adjacent shale oval to ourselves.
A cordoned area of the paddock could be allocated to us, allowing us to promote the hobby in a cohesive manner to all-comers.
The cost is £35 per kart for the day, which includes access to all of the club facilities.

As I have posted previously, it is easy for me to promote this circuit as I live just 4 miles away. However having a friendly facility with a relaxed approach in the midlands has got to have merit ?

I realise that the majority are part-way through their build, but if I could have a show of hands as to who would be interested, I will start to look at a date convenient to all. Sunday 5th May ?

I agree, Nick seems very keen to help and assist, and if for no other reason we should support his venue.
Also the Stretton circuit is very attractive, with plenty of atmospheric photo opportunities, and an interesting track layout.
Re 5th May...put me down I'll get there.

Time to put the 5th May as the first posting in Events Graham?
We must avoid torturing our brains with false problems, it occupies but it can annoy. In jest!

Yes, dependent on progress with the Morgan, and how Mam is, she'll be 96 by then so her health is a bit unpredictable.

I'm just starting my build now, and definitely won't be ready by May 5, but I'll be there in person. Chris......

I will be there too. What time do we get there and can we do some Gokarting too!?
I have finished making all four wooden wheels now, they are not painted yet but look good. I'll bring a front and rear one with me. I would like your opinion on how long they will live on the circuit.  I might be building a static Cyclekart!
Could do with some guidance on tyres too.
I look forward to meeting everybody.
See you Sunday!

Hi Adrian. It's an open club practice day so I don't think the hire karts will be available. But I will ask, it would be fun. Graham.

Hi all. I've had a final check at the circuit this morning and by way of confirmation:
The facility will be open from 09.00 (or very soon after). Track open from 10.00. Final track use approx 17.00
Most seem to be aiming to get there for 10.00 I will be there at 09.15
The track manager for the day is Nick (Dusty).
Circuit use is £35.00 per day for each car. You will need to sign in and pay before using the track. We should get track use of between 15-20  minutes every hour.
Full face helmets and race overalls will be required during racing, however Stretton Circuit have kindly offered the loan of these to us for the day for free.
Hire karts will not be available on the day (sorry Adrian, but if your teeth are up to it, you can have a go in my MG)
The small shale oval is available all day.
We have an allocated space in the paddock, it's the freshly gravelled area immediately adjacent the clubhouse.
Snacks and drinks machines available in the clubhouse.
I confirm that I have also arranged for us to use the adjacent aero-club cafeteria facilities. It's a private road so you can drive your CK back and forth !
I've ordered some good weather on the day, so no problems there.
I hope that anybody with an interest turns up on the day and introduces themselves.
Finally, I am advised that we may have one or two board-track-racers turn up on the day. This is yet to be confirmed, but I have checked with Stretton Circuit and you will be most welcome to join in.
It should be a good day. Graham.

Hello Graham, Are we unloading trailers, vans etc, next to the dirt oval as before?
 cheers, Geoff
