Guys, here where we are at.

Unfortunately Jim's latest video qualified as a valid entry, but was penalized 10 mph.

The problem is the video is too low and does not show any of  the road ahead.

The penalty may sound harsh, but has to be given for 2 reasons:

1- Its in the rules that the road needs to be visible on the video. Its a SAFETY rule as I need to see where people are driving. Some people do some pretty crazy stuff like blowing past stop signs, red lights, drive in traffic, and I want to avoid that, or at least be able to see if its being done or not. The only way to do this is by being able to see whats going on.

2- David Dupaquier's Maserati got the same penalty last year on his first try, for the exact same reason (camera too low).
This is the same cyclekart and driver that is now competing with Jim's Dodge for the Championship.
I can not treat Jim and the Dodge any differently than I treated Dupaquier and his Maserati.

It sucks and hurts me to have to penalize Jim and his Dodge's entry.
Penalizing and disqualifying people is a part I really dislike of being in charge of races.
But its the right thing to do.

Unfortunately his speed goes from 42mph down to 32mph, putting the Dodge in 8th place in the Corona, just 0.5 mph short of 7th.
The 8th position means 4 points, which leaves the Dodge just 0.5 point short of the Championship Title.

Its amazing how close this points race is and how this been unfolding. Couldn't be scripted!

Also unfortunately it appears Jim is done, he said he needed to take time off in isolation for somekind of medical procedure coming up.

So here is where we stand guys.
Jim may be done due to his medical schedule, but the race is not over yet.
I don't know if Jim has given this any thought, but another driver could take his Dodge out and record a new Corona video entry.
Its primarily a cyclekart race, not a drivers race.
The cyclekart will score the points, regardless of who drives it.

And there is no need to get it up to 42-43 mph.
A 2-run Corona average of 32.5 mph (and a proper video!!!) is enough to lock the Championship in favor of the Dodge.
A 32.5 mph speed ties the Dodge with the "Lumpirghini" for 7th place in the Corona, scores 4.5 points, and ties the Dodge with the Maserati at 52.5 points in the Championship.
But the Dodge takes the 2021 Championship Title in the tie-breaker (2 wins X 1 win during the season).

I don't know how close you all live to Jim, but thats still an option.
The race is not over yet.

Well would you believe it. I had to go for a blood test at the hospital with the CK still in the back of the van and on the way home happened to be a dead end farm track. Not very long and a bit bumpy but I think I got to 36 maybe 37 on the first run and 36 on the return. This is definitely the last chance I will get so fingers crossed it's ok.
If you can drive round corners, you're not going fast enough.

Man this is amazing!!

A new cyclekart from Canada entered the race yesterday and posted a speed in the 47mph range,
This was bad news in England, it meant Jim's Dodge dropped 1 position in the race, to 9th place....
Not only was the Dodge now another half point further from the Maserati, but its target speed to match no longer was the 32.5mph by the Lumpirghini, but now it was the 36.5 mph by the #23 VKC!!!

Jim's new video barely passed the camera angle view requirement, and he kind of rolled the first start (but I started counting from when he was still stopped), the road was short, and he wasn't even planning on driving the Dodge at that moment. But somehow he was able to get a 37mph on R1 and 36mph on R2, for an average of exactly 36.5 mph. Yes you read it right, 36.5 mph!!! How crazy is that? Jim had no idea 36.5mph was the speed he now needed, as he didnt know the Canadian Bloody Mary cyclekart had entered the race!!!

With these latest developments, the Dodge is currently in 7th position in The Corona, scoring 4.5 points.
If the Corona ends in this order, the Dodge and Maserati tie at the Top of the Championship points, but the Dodge would rise a little higher than the Maserati in the tie-breaker (2 wins vs. 1 win during the season), taking the 2021 Title.

There are still 2 days to the end of the Corona race and the Championship.
What else is going to happen???

Thanks lads. It's all very exciting. The best I got on the speedo was 44mph but the video wasn't any good. It was a bit twitchy at that speed but some front axle angle changes could help.

Not Arizona Time, it goes more like YouTube time.
The deadline goes by the date the video was posted (on YouTube, Facebook, or wherever it was posted)
Must say Nov 1 at the latest.

Flipping’ ‘eck!!!

There’s been a flurry of last minute entries to stir the excitement pot even more.   But, they still have to pass muster with The Guv’nor.

Whatever the result - great concept Carlos and good sport from the entrants!

Here it is folks!!

Thanks for your patience waiting for the results!!!

Congratulations to all Corona 2021 participants!!!
We got up to 11 participants, one less than half of last year.
Despite having less participants, it wasn't any less interesting or any less fun.
Quite the contrary, what an exciting race and end of season!!!
It was very entertaining how everything played out, and best, everyone showed great sportsmanship and respect.
Specially with all the penalty calls I had to make...
Really great job everyone, thank you!!!
But lets get those videos pointed the right way in 2022, please!!!
Looking forward to next year already, and hoping to welcome lots more international entries!!!

The 2021 Corona Speed Challenge win goes to John Lacambra's #36 Delage "Pepe le Pew" Predator 212 from the Pacific North West USA region, with a record setting speed of 60.5 mph!! Its lead was never threatened once it was on the board, but behind it it was very close.

The result settles the 2021 CycleKart World Championship's epic Dodge vs. Maserati joust in favor of David Dupaquier's #3 Maserati... by just 1 measly point... and 2/10 of a mph!!!

Although the Championship battle was between Dave Dupaquier's #3 Maserati and Jim Tanner's #8 Dodge, and after all the back and forth we saw during the Corona, what ultimately gave the Championship to the Maserati was the 2/10 of mph that separated it in 2nd place and the #17 Talbot in 3rd in The Corona race. The Talbot put forward a last minute attempt to overtake the Maserati on Nov 1, but was not able to better its speed from the Oct 16 run. Had the Talbot been able to pass the Maseratii even by a minuscule fraction of a mph, the Maserati would have dropped to 3rd, score 1 less point, and the 2021 World Championship Title would have gone to the British Dodge who had the tie breaker advantage.

Incredible effort put up by Jim Tanner and his Dodge, digging deep, but when the dust settled, unfortunately it came up just a little short.
Cest la vie...

So yes folks, the #3 Maserati 250F is the 2021 CycleKart World Champion, taking the Title for the 2nd year in a row!!

Party at Scuderia Italia's headquarters!!!

Wow that was close. Well done Dave for the win and everyone else who participated. A huge Thanks to Carlos for organising such a fun championship and speed challenge. The British lads did well didn't they though. Bring on 2022.

60.5mph? Someone has a big pair 🤣 What engine was used for that?
