old number one for sale
« on: 29 Jun 22, 03:32 pm »
I have decided to sell my cyclekart. The main reason is to visit the nearest venue to me which is Stretton, would involve a round trip of 500 miles at a cost approaching £200. As much as it looks like an enjoyable day or two, the fun element is outweighed by the cost and time spent travelling etc.
The kart has only run for about five minutes to test brakes and steering etc. so all the bits that I have bought are all new. It isn't quite finished but there is little left to do.
I am looking to recover just the cost of parts which is about £1500. If interested I will provide a full list of bits and pieces.
You can see most of the details in the build journal.

I think that would be sad. I do know that there are others further north looking to hold gatherings, and I too want to experience further and different things.
We must avoid torturing our brains with false problems, it occupies but it can annoy. In jest!

That seems a real shame, Paul. Why not hold on to it and see if you and others can't arrange a local "chapter" of the club and arrange some local events? Stretton isn't the be all and end all.
I don't want to bore you all with the details, here. But if you are interested, have a look at my blog https://peteskart.blogspot.com/

Hi Paul,
Sorry to hear you are not going ahead with your build. It looks like you've done some great work so far.
This is quite interesting to me, as what you've done so far would give me a massive head-start on a build. I believe my mx5 is around that value, so the cost should work well with my budget too, once I sell it. I have a couple of questions which I've not been able to work out from the build diary...
Was the ladder you chopped up a new one? Might sound like a silly question, but I'd be looking to make the kart road-legal, with a new number-plate, so I believe everything needs to be new.
Are those wheels the standard fun-bike wheels, or have you used uprated spokes?
Thanks,
Konrad

The ladder was a second hand one. The wheels are standard pit bike wheels from fun bikes.

I’m just going to re-post this pic to show why I changed my plan of road legalling my kart….. drivers head at the same approximate height as the license plate on a small Citroen….. errrrr, no. It was terrifying enough driving a 78 MG midget in traffic!

Yup, thanks for the thought, synthpunk. I appreciate it's not going to be the safest mode of transport, but the way I see it, it's not much different to riding a motorbike... when driving a car you need to assume everyone is an idiot, but when driving a bike/kart, you'll need to assume everyone is actively TRYING to kill you. At least with a kart, it's more likely that it's someone else who'll kill me, whereas on a bike I'm far more likely to take myself out, when my confidence exceeds my skill.
Having given the purchase some thought overnight, I've decided that I wouldnt want to have to pull Pauls hard work apart to achieve my goals. If someone is aiming for a Q plate, or to just run it on track, then it's a perfect setup ready for someone to just add their personal touches.
Best of luck with the sale, or with finding like-minded people further north to share it with :)
