Title: 12th July Haynes Alternative . South West
Post by: Chris L on 03 Jun 23, 01:45 pm
Hi All .   We have the use of a large section of concrete (WW2 Airfield) . Enough to layout a Circuit.
On Wednesday 12th July 2023. Full day. Porta loos on site. Unfortunately no camping or food facilities.

It will be a Fun relaxed day. Exclusive to us. Ideal for testing , Timed Sprint. etc . A closed event (not open to public ) .

The address is Grandfields . Westonzoyland (MX track and Learner driver). Langport rd. Bridgwater . TA7 0DR.
Just off Junc 23/ 24 of M5 .

Please let me know if you are interested .

Help / volunteers  would be most welcome on the day, No need to have a CKart finished or if thinking of building . This is the chance to see some in action.

Yes Chris I'm interested, hopefully I'll have made some progress with the reworking of the Morgan by then. If not I'll still come along and help, and combine it with a holiday in the area.

Hi All,

Chris, Glynn and Myself had trip to check out to the location tonight.

There is 7500 Sq m of prime concrete!

As Chris said there are loos and lots of space for pits etc.

The plan is to have a grub wagon call past or perhaps a BBQ where we could flip some burgers.

So why not come along and tryout a new venue.

We will be working on the planning and post update as and when available.

All the best

Ian

I'll bring a Gazebo, the means to make hot drinks and a fridge for cold drinks. The fridge isn't tall enough for 2l bottles, but it'll take 1l and cans.

I won't get chance to work on the Morgan, but I'll probably bring it "as is" just to give it a bit of a run, and prove it exists.

Evening All,
As the locals, we had a little planning call tonight.
Things are coming along for what should be an entertaining day at Westonzoyland.
Chris L is in liaison with the committee and formal invites should be out to members very soon.
But don't delay in making your plans for the 12th!
Attached is a very draft track plan for info.
All the best.
Ian

Would it be OK for a couple of friends who live in the area, to come along to see what it's all about?

Hi Chris, Check with the Clerk of the Course (Stefan) as I don't think this event allows spectators. They might be able to peep through the bushes or something maybe.

Yes you are right Jim. It is a gates closed event . Simpler to manage .

But we can bring Guests as long as pre registered .  Would that work for you Chris ?

In response to the query about guests, I can confirm that whilst the general public will not be admitted to this event, we are more than happy for members to bring guests.
Please register names of guests with myself - ckgbmembership@gmail.com - at least 24 hrs in advance.
Thanks.

Dear All,
I thought I would just add to the thread regarding the Westonzoyland event.
Attached are the joining instructions - Chris S will send you these with your application form, but gives you a heads up of the event if you were on the fence.
I have also attached the latest, and should be final track layout for your information.
This will be a CKGB exclusive event so lots of opportunity for testing on what should be a good quality surface.
Hope you can make it along.
Best regards
Ian L

Hi all,
My weekday suddenly got freed up, so was considering coming along to see some actual karts in action. I can see from the PDF that the cost for a CK driver is £35, and £10 per extra driver. Is there a price already set for spectators please?

Hi Konrad, No charge for spectators. Just need to register as a guest with Chris Slade (Ckgb membership) or i can register with him that you will be attending.

Do you still need the Kart Seat , as i could bring it on the day .

The weather report looks like a very wet day next Wednesday. Are there going to be plenty of gazebos/shelters? I'm just wondering if I need to bring mine. I'm not sure I can fit it in with the CK I shall hopefully bring along. The Shelters will need securing down, Are there any grass bits for pegs or do we need concrete screws? I only have a few and people generally don't like having holes drilled in their tarmac/hard standing.

What I am planning to do is open the back doors of the van to 180 attach two of the gazebo legs to them, and use leg weights on the other two.

Thanks for confirming Chris, I'll send an e-mail to ckgbmembership now to register.
Yes, I was just about to msg you to ask about the seat. Yes, I'd still like it please.

I have a 3x3 gazebo I can bring too, but it's more of a summer-weight thing, and doesnt do great in a down-pour. I'll have plenty of space in my Touran to fit it in tho, as no kart, so I'll bring it just in case, along with a large golfing umbrella which might be handy for marshalls.

Don’t panic! The forecast is improving!

If it does rain at least it will be warm!

We should be fine on the concrete surface, finger crossed.

There will be plenty of space in the pits for gazebos and CK’s - I have a summer weight one I will also bring.

Just off to the beach to check on the seaweed!

Not looking promising for Wednesday, and I'm not talking about the weather. On my way to the caravan site today a couple of amber warnings popped up on the dash of the van, I'll try and get it sorted tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful.

If it's just a matter of clearing the warnings it should be OK, if not I'm stuck. it was fine on the way home, but I hate driving anything with warning lights on.

Stefan,

do you still have any of your shaped exhaust pipes, to fit the flanges you did? If so could you bring one tomorrow?

If the initial test run of the 7 doesn't end in disaster the first thing I have to do is narrow the tail by fitting a new exhaust and carburettor.

Hi guys, just had a thought, yes i was shocked as well. Any of you creating with GRP I have several sheets of Polystyrene 4 foot square 4 inches thick if you can use them let me know & i will try to fit them on my van. Please be aware this is old stuff that burns amazingly well.

Cheers Nick

Unfortunately as I feared the result of taking the van in to the garage today, is it's a turbo regulation problem, so it's off the road.

That's a shame Chris, let's hope it's not too serious.

I've just packed the cyclekart, probably needs a bit of fettling as the first thing I found when I moved it out into the sunlight was that the steering was extremely limited, but I have a file with me!

Hopefully see you all bright and early,

Could they attend as "pit crew"?
You never know, they might get bitten by the bug and join up.
Speaking from personal experience I know the bug is very contagious!  ;D
