I have booked Whilton Mill small kart circuit for 25th oct 2022 between 9am and 4pm for a couple of 2hr endurance races. There will a practice of 1hr till 10am and the 1st race will start at 10.30 till 12.30. Then Lunch. The second heat will be 1.45 till 3.45 and followed by a presentation. A minimum of two drivers per car and a maximum of 4. The cost is £80 per team(only £20 per driver if you have 4, so a real bargain). Please put your team name and amount of drivers down asap if you want to go. Ideally by 23/07/2022.
We can skip lunch if people would rather do the whole race in one hit, again let me know by posting on here.
Team names can be anything you like within reason.
we can get transponders to count the laps, best lap time and last lap time ect.
It's gonna be a fantastic day with first class facilities at the circuit.
Teams get your name down now!!!
-
I will put my name down first to get things rolling.
Team: Witzend Racing
Jim Tanner plus 1 other driver.
-
Here is a little video of a test at the track last year.

Or Phats and Small ;D
-
Could you put my name down please for a team with two drivers.
Thanks Mark
-
2x 2hrs = 24 (0) minutes of Whilton...Our very own Le Mans!
Put me down for an entry - will figure out drivers and team name
-
Definitely interested Jim, no team as yet tho'
-
Book me in for a team of 3, subject to this being 1/2 term week. team name is undecided atm as my suggestions are usually inappropriate...along the lines of Norfolk & Chance etc
-
If it's raining on the day here is a video of Marek driving my kart with expert skill showing how well it handles in the wet.

If there are any more people interested in this event, please put your names down.
-
Very interested in doing this, just need to get some more experience of driving Jane and doing some adjustments, which should happen at Sywell. Need to know fuel usage, fuel endurance, any evident symptoms of low fuel, tyre wear, brake wear, what spares I will need, etc.
Even if Jane turns out to be not quite ready for what looks to be an arduous event, then can probably come along to assist with the event 🤗
-
A few people have said they are struggling to get a second driver for the endurance race so we may do something else instead. If anyone has any ideas I am more than willing to change the format and do what the majority want.
There is a great restaurant at the track and lunch can be pre booked.
Hopefully here is a sample menu.
-
Hi Jim, how long have we got the track for and are the transponders included?
I will be coming, and do the you have an idea of total numbers? I will have a think about possibilities 🤗
-
Hi Ian, The track is booked between 9 and 4. We may do a 1hr endurance race so we can have single drivers. I don't know all the numbers yet but a guess of about 8. I don't know if transponders are included. when I get a chance i will call and find out.
-
So far the names I have for this are:-
Jim Tanner
Andy Boulton
Chris Slade
Mark Under
Ian Fletcher
Stefan Nahajski
Simon Glenn
Chris Loader
Richard Bond
-
The more cars that come along, the cost can be reduced.
-
Who does or doesn't have enough drivers for an endurance event? Just wondering if we can help. I do have drivers.
-
Because it's a weekday it's difficult to get time off work and some teams are struggling to get another driver. Also some teams perhaps don't want other drivers to drive their cars. So a 1hr race could be done by 1 driver. It'll feel like a long time in a cyclekart to be honest and a driver swap won't take long but it has the option. I don't think fuel will last an hour so karts will have to pull in anyway and driver changes can be done then and won't affect times much.
-
Hi Jim, can you give me a call on 07724 194717 when your free 🤗
-
Team Italiano will have a spare place Stefan.

I was team fat and furious but am now just team fat haha :)
-
Will the Hour long Endurance event ; earn us World Champs Points , Stefan ?
Chris L
-
Chris, we could have a Maybug and the endurance to get double points for the CKWC.
-
I suspect the above comment that some don't want other people to drive their cars, and what I was told the last time I went to Wilton Mill that the club had decided that no guest drivers were allowed may have an influence?

I have just checked the BBC weather and it's looking pretty good for Tuesday. Woohoo Its going to be a right laugh with lots of silly stuff and messing about in your fine creations. I will available for hokey cokey instructions during the day and this year we are also celebrating Andy Boultons 10 year reign as Dustons cross dressing champion. A mighty accomplishment that can only be achieved with hard work and dedication. He will be signing autographs on the day, I am pretty sure. Top Man Andy.

Thanks Jim, Such a shame you lost again, the creativity in your outfits really is quite amazing and the detail in your sequin work is truly next level. I am sure if you persevere you will make the podium next year, its a bit like the Cyclekart world championship, if only you had won that slalom event - whoops!!! bahhhaaaaah

I got sick of losing to you in both the cross dressing championship and the CK Slalom. That's why I went for the broke back mountain look, but that didn't do us any favours in the Aviator hotel though. Cyclekarting is tough life when you have to perform to this standard as often as we do.

Mucho thanks to all that came along yesterday. I hope you all had an enjoyable day and went away happy. It was great to see some new faces and seven karts on track. It was also nice to see some spectators who are keen to build a CK and from the chats I had look like they're going to build some great machines ready for the start of next years season.
My brief summary of the races. The Maybug Medal sprint challenge was done in the morning and everyone was given a chance to have two attempts of the flying start lap. The times were very close but I just managed on my second attempt to get 1st place with a 35.7 second lap.
This gave us the grid positions for the 40 minute endurance race with its Le mans style start. Wow what a hoot that was, everyone was nervous sat on the tyres on the opposite side of the track waiting for the last of the drivers to get ready. All eyes were on the flag start girl as she dropped the flag and the mad dash accross the track commenced. Drivers dived into their karts and were away spinning tyres as they pulled out into the chaos of people jostling for position. The first few laps went well and Chris L started pulling quite a lead. Until it went bang. Fire and Brimstone came pouring out of the back of the Austin but Chris tried to keep it going to get as many laps as he could before it finally died. The track was filled with smoke and it looked like a thick fog had desended on us.
Mark Underdown was to drop out soon after because he drove all the tread and canvas off his rear tyres. (correct spelling) and the inner tube went pop.
Ian F was next to pull into the pits as his engine was starting to cook and the exhaust tail pipe didn't want to carry on either deciding to go its own way.
Simons Maserati was in and out of the pits due to various issues and he lost out on quite a few laps but still went through the chequered flag at the end.
I was next to retire. As I pulled into the pits to let my co driver have his turn and re-fuel I lifted off the engine cover to find all my engine oil had fell out all over the pit lane. The two bottom bolts on the crank case had come loose. I had to remove the chains and clutch ect to get at them and there wasn't enough time to rejoin the race. Chris L gave me some oil and the CK was back up and running.
This left Andy B and Chris S to battle it out for a few laps until Simon rejoined the race and they all saw the chequered flag soon after.
The endurance race was definitely about reliability rather than speed and trying to drive the tyres off.
