Title: Engine position
Post by: Jimr1999 on 05 Oct 22, 08:45 am
Just tinkering with a design for a potential CycleKart and put the following together (see vid) Has anyone gone this route with a TAV2 30 and are clearance issues just on the fins or am I missing something??? I would re position the tank.

Hi Jim, I've currently got mine mounted vertically (without the tank) and the only issue you may have is chain clearance on some ribs on the front of the tav. My plan A was to have the axle where the tank normally is (tav mounted 9 o'clock ish), but ride height tends towards negative if you do that.

Hi Jim, been there done that. A bit of massaging of the fins doesn't have any serious implications.

Thanks for the replies both, I guessed I would have to massage a goodly chunk off some of the webs. It looks like it will be the same clock position as the three wheeler, about 1 o'clock.
I will delve more deeply over winter. Off abroad for a bit now.

Looks like with the TAV at 1 O'clock it will need a few of the ribs tickling off and perhaps some countersunk Torx heads to fasten it. Possibly a winner.  ;D

As the fastening bolts are inside the "bell shaped" housing of the primary drive they should not need to be other than standard bolts. Be aware, I have so far found 4 different versions of bolts on the engines, both standard and fine metric, and versions of what the Americans number by thread count.
They have required less massaging at what I would call 11 o'clock (I look from the crankshaft side) than anywhere else. Get rid of the stock muffler and all will be well as in your drawing
Enjoy the break, but I'll put money on it that you don't stop scheming!
