South West / AIRFIELD ACES NEW YEAR SHAKEDOWN 2026
« on: 04 Dec 25, 09:37 am »
The South West Region are hosting a New Year Shakedown, practice event on 3rd & 4th January 2026.
We will set up the track on the Friday to allow practice driving all day Saturday ( 4th January ).
On Saturday night we will be having a belated Christmas party in the Vintage themed Nissen Hut, which has a bar, heating & cooking facilities.
There will be opportunity for more driving on Sunday but we plan to be packed up by early afternoon.

The other thing you can do to influence the final drive ratio with the Comet TAV is to fit a collar on the driven pulley, between the sheaves.  By restricting the movement of the outer sheave you can vary the drive ratio between 3:1 and 1:1, I have mine set at 2:1 which allows the engine to rev a bit higher.

Hello Bazzerg,
One of our Southwest Regional members lives in Dorset, Ringwood I think.  It's quite a drive but you are welcome to come along to any of our meetings which are held every other weekend at Middlezoy Aerodrome in Somerset.  We have a meeting this weekend.

Note – This is a large Classic and Vintage Vehicle show which is well established but has outgrown its previous venue and will be relocating to Middlezoy Aerodrome for the first time this year.  Middlezoy Aerodrome is where CKGB South West region have established their club hut and Airfield Aces cyclekart track.
We plan to have some non-competitive demonstration driving over the weekend but this will be on a reduced track to promote cyclekarting.  There will be time for tinkering and testing and of course an opportunity to visit the show.

Tech Forum / Re: Steel Bodies?

I use 0.6mm thick galvanised steel for floors and seat pans as I find it is really easy to cut and fold using basic hand tools.  I have also made the bodywork for my Austin Seven Twincam from an old tumble dryer.  That is 0.5mm steel.

That’s a really nice job. Very well done !
