Morning Steve, we currently have quite a full season of events so there is not much space to fit more events in.  Kart tracks are often more expensive to hire and are generally more that twice the entry price of the other events we will be attending.  However, I do realise that kart tracks offer a more challenging track, which is why we are planning to add ELK Karting to the Autumn Extravaganza.

August is currently clear of events, but the school holidays are always the busy periods for karting tracks, so are very expensive to hire in that period.

We were at Whilton in March, and the Mill circuit is getting a bit small for us now as the pit-line is quite small.

We were at Stretton last November, and this may be a possibility for us again this year.

Hi Jay, your essentially right with the show entry fee.  Entry fees for the CKGB activities will be detailed on the entry form when it is released.

As its the Kit Car Show, would be happy to accept entries from cyclekarts that comply with all the safety requirements of the NORA/CKGB Handbook, but only need the bodywork competing.

Thanks thamesmud for the info on charging the batteries.  As mentioned in a previous post the club has minimal experience of electric power, so we will need to update the handbook and regs at some point.

We will also need to update our Hazard Log and the Risk Management Plan.  Consequently, at some point could you detail the hazards regarding the various types of batteries and the hazards involved when charging them (especially in the paddock)?

WESTONZOYLAND UPDATE

Ian Lang is going to be the event lead for this event.

He will need the support of other members.  Volunteers are required for Clerk of Course, deputy Clerk of Course, Event Secretary and marshals.  The club has a proven procedure for organising and managing events, and the Events Co-ordinator is there to assist anyone carrying out these tasks.  Training and experience can also be provided for the various roles at our events at:
  • "Race the Waves"
    The National Kit Car Show
    Brooklands

RACE THE WAVES UPDATE

The Event Regulations and Entry Form have now been issued and are available as attchments to the header post of this topic (they are listed at the bottom of that post).

Please note:

It is an early start on the Saturday and Sunday, so "signing-on" and the "event briefing" will take place on the Friday (full details in the Entry Regs).

“Knobbly” motor-cross type tyres will cut up the surface of the CKGB track and the drag strip, consequently only “road-pattern” tyres are allowed for this event.

There is a date on the entry form which is the latest date for submission of entries.

Hi Steve,  Jim R is the lead member for this event, so it will be his decision, but he is a way on China on holiday.

I'm assisting Jim with this event and both the Saturday and Sunday have an early start, therefore signing-on and drivers briefing will take place on the Friday afternoon.  If your able to be there on Friday for signing-on and briefing, then it may be possible to do just one of the two weekend days.

SANTA POD UPDATE

This should be the last update for Santa Pod.

The weather forecast is still good, but it will be windy.

The "Run what you Brung" drag racing event is currently a little low on attendees, so all the facilities may not be open.

The cafe on the other side of the drag-strip will be open plus the toilets near to the cafe.  It is hoped that the toilets at the bar will also be open.  There may also be a burger van in the drag strip area.

Our area will be the "Live Action Arena".

this map shows the location of the various places  https://santapod.co.uk/site.php

REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR COMPLETED SAFETY DECLARATION FORMS TO SIGNING-ON

Hi Chris,

Hope your hospital appointment goes well.  Regards entrance to the show, there is no cut-off for this event.
Regards the CKGB activities, I need to know entries a few days before the event, so I can check payments, membership, licences and prepare the paperwork.
Consequently, as we get nearer the event, just email me your entry form, but don't make the payment.  Remind me about this agreement when you send me the entry form, then we will sort the payment out if you manage to attend.

SANTA POD UPDATE

Its looking good for Saturday at Santa Pod :D

The weather forecast is improving as we get closer to the event and its now looking like sunny intervals and 17 degrees C  :D

We also have 8 cyclekarts attending.

I also have one spare ticket allocation left, so if someone wants to join in the fun and already has their 2024 Club membership and NORA race licence sorted, then I am willing to take another entry up till lunchtime tomorrow.
This will be on a first-come-first served basis, and if you want this place email me at ckgbeventsco@gmail.com

Hi Richard, as you have probably realised there is minimal guidance in the current CKGB Handbook regarding electric powered Cyclekarts, just the voltage and power acceptable limits.
This is because the club has limited experience of electric powered cyclekarts.  I believe Stefan (chairman) and his son Marek have the most experience as they built an electric cyclekart that did run briefly, but they had lots of problems with the speed controller.
Anyhow, when electric cyclekarts are going to be built, the handbook will be reviewed and amended accordingly, especially with regards to safety.
Consequently, please could you keep the committee informed of your plans regards an electric powered cyclekart?  Especially regards your research into battery types, motors, speed controllers, including the available types, costs, safety issues, and the mitigations of the safety risks (special fire extinguishers, etc). This will hopefully ensure that you build a cyclekart that will be in accordance with the revised Handbook, when it is reviewed and amended.

SANTA POD UPDATE

The "In case of emergency" form is now added as an attachment to the heading post.

Looks like there will be 6 or 7 cyclekarts on the day  ;D

Yes Ian, unfortunately that is currently the case.

According to the NORA/CKGB Handbook, each events regulations will state if one-day licences will be accepted for that event.  Currently, we do not have the administrative capacity to handle the one-day licences, so the event regulations for probably all this seasons events will not be accepting the one-day licences.

Hi Nick,

That is certainly a long delay!  However, we were told on our Clerk of Course training that certain officials can view licence status through the NORA website (but cant check that out till my Clerk of Course licence is sent out and the access granted).  Therefore, in theory if your licence has not arrived we should be able to verify you are licensed.

Hi Ian,

Sorry, you have already obtained the one-event licence.  I do not have personal experience of the process, but have been told that in the past it added a lot of admin on the day, holding up the signing on process and delaying proceedings, because we simply do not have enough volunteers to manage the days activities efficiently.  Consequently a few people are doing many jobs which results in long delays till everything is in place and it results in added stress for the volunteers.  By having the normal race licence, that can all be checked off prior to the event, subsequently minimising admin on the day.  The one-event licence also increases admin after the event, as it requires more information on the event report and subsequent invoice.  It may be possible to introduce the process when we have more volunteers.
