Where to get stuff / Fire Extinguisher
« on: 13 Feb 24, 05:55 pm »
Given the requirement to bring a 2kg dry powder fire extinguisher to events, I thought it might be helpful is we had somewhere to share deals people find.

We could get them for just under £16 each if we buy 10 at a time from Simply Extinguishers.   CORRECTION no bulk order required but free shipping if you spend over £25 so ideal if you want 2.

Anyone found a good deal that doesn't need bulk purchase?

Events / Online Builders Meet 30 Jan 2024
« on: 15 Jan 24, 02:56 pm »
The next online Builders Meet will be on Tues 30th Jan at 7pm.  We’ll be talking about some updates to the regs in the CKGB Handbook as well as options for making handbrakes.  I'm pretty certain we'll also talk about wheel track and the Gemini front axle.

If you have any questions or any building ideas you’d like to talk about, please email me (ckgbchair@gmail.com) and we’ll try to fit in as much as possible.

If you’ve been building cyclekarts for a while, then please come along to share your experience.  If you’re new to it all and can’t wait to get started, then this is your chance to ask lots of questions.

The meeting will be on Zoom and we'll post the link to join the meeting on here nearer the time.

Build journals / Build Journals - Please Check the Regs!
« on: 05 Sep 23, 08:46 pm »
The build journals are a fantastic resource for new cyclekart builders to get inspiration, technical tips and other ideas.

Please note, some cyclekarts that have journals here were built before the current set of rules and may only be eligible for CKGB events via the grandfather clause which does not apply to new cyclekart builds.  So, please start by reading the current regs and if in doubt, ask.

Tech Forum / Rocker cover breather tube
« on: 17 Jul 23, 10:02 pm »
The breather tube on a GX200 is stuffed into a hole in the side of the rocker cover.   If you want to add a slightly more definite pipe fitting, it’s easy to take the internal baffle out to access the hole as it’s just a push fit.  I use an old chisel to gently pry it up without distorting the metal.  Then you just push it back in when you’ve finished.

So now you know.

Bookings will shortly be open for the Brooklands Relived event featuring the Double Twelve on 17th/18th June

In the museum’s words - “Come and enjoy this two-day extravaganza, featuring the Double Twelve Competition events, Test Hill ascents, great food, music and entertainment for the whole family.

The event celebrates Brooklands’ rich motoring and motorsport history, and is always held on the weekend closest to the anniversary of the original opening of the racetrack on the 17th June 1907.

Get ready for a day of spectacular displays and competition as we welcome vehicles to compete in the Double Twelve Speed Trials. Head over to Mercedes-Benz World and watch as 19-classes of vehicles compete for the best result in these heralded timed-trials, and then later, peruse the paddocks at the Museum for some truly exceptional examples of motor-vehicles.

Both days will feature festival fun on the Museum site, with live music, car and motor club displays and family entertainment.”

Once again, we’ve been invited by Brooklands Museum to join this historic event.  This is the first year in this new format combining the Double Twelve and Relived.  Based on previous events we might expect a larger crowd on the Sunday.

On Saturday, as part of the Double Twelve Time Trials, we will have an opportunity to do a display lap or two of the Mercedes World Test Track at lunchtime.  We may also be invited to do some display laps on the start finish straight.

On Sunday, we will do exhibition laps of the start-finish straight with commentary, simulated race mass starts and have a chance to conquer Test Hill.

On both days we will have a display stand with our cyclekarts and we make an effort to look the part in period attire.

Whenever we’ve been to Brooklands, the crowd has loved the cyclekart displays and we always get a great reaction.  Plus, of course, there’s the chance to look around the fabulous collection of cars, bikes and planes at the museum.

You can do both days or just one and the cost is just £10 per cyclekart for the weekend!

Entry forms and event details will be available to members later this month, please email Chris at ckgbmembership@gmail.com to register your interest and receive forms as soon as they are released.

Tech Forum / Checklist, tyre pressures and fuel lines
« on: 21 Apr 23, 03:30 pm »
With the new season about to start don’t forget to go through your checklist and logbook notes.

My logbook reminded me that I’d noticed a cracking fuel hose last year (now fixed) and the tyre pressures I was last running…plus a bunch of improvements I intended to make…!

Cost me £23.99 - happy to take £20

Anyone know where I can buy torsion springs with a defined wire thickness and internal diameter, for a reasonable cost?  Loads of them for sale but most places have no technical information.

Events / First Aid
« on: 04 Apr 23, 05:43 pm »
Our events need first aid cover and although this is typically provided by the venue or the host organisation that has invited us, there are occasions when we need to provide our own first aiders.   Our insurance requires that first aiders are qualified to the same level as the 3 day "first aid at work" certified training.   If you are currently qualified to this level or above and would consider volunteering to provide first aid cover, we'd really like to hear from you.   It is not a common requirement (currently its only one event this year and we have one volunteer for that), but having a few people we could call on if required would be great.

If you think you'd be up for helping or want to know more, please send me a message.  Thanks Stefan
