PREAMBLE
Let me start this “Build Journal” by putting my cards firmly on the table.
I am a BUREAUCRAT; there I’ve said it, and it feels good.
Why did I reveal all? Well, it’s like a recovering alcoholic, and the answer is quite simple. Not only am I Scottish (accident by birth and proud), no I am or I should say I was, by profession, a Civil Servant. That in itself is hard to admit but it gets worse, a lot worse.
I was a Tax Inspector.
Now I know a number of you have been revolted by these shocking revelations and will immediately hit the “delete button” calling, no demanding, that Stefan cast me out from this august fellowship but fellow builders can I not appeal to your compassionate natures and can you not find it in your heart of hearts to welcome and embrace into your fold, a misfit such as I, giving this sinner a second chance.
I am a reformed person, seeking advice and encouragement, willing to change my ways, well up to a point.
What I am trying to say, from the very outset is that within these hallowed builders circle I am, what one would technically refer to as, “an idiot”. This I know, accept and more importantly can live with.
The mention of things like “dipstick threads TPI’s & UNC’s” not to mention the conversation thread I noted about someone’s “BIG END” made me glaze over and filled me with feelings of inadequacy, sending me scurrying to the safety of a darkened room from where I hope to eventually reappear a little the less for wear, but still emotionally scarred for life.
What I am trying to say within this preamble is that I have ZERO engineering knowledge or ability AND because of this, within this journal, there will be a complete absence or reference to any technical phrases or terminology, just plain and simple text, “I hope”.
The build will be undertaken on the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) principal and I will be internalizing this every step of the way. Not only that, I am a firm believer in, “not trying to reinvent the wheel”. If someone before you has spent time and effort developing a way to construct “a kart” over a period of years then perhaps one should spend time listening to what they have to say, AND take on board their advice and guidance.
Throughout this journey from “Bolts Bits and Blunders”, I hope to emerge at the other side the proud owner of a complete, working and fully functioning cyclekart.
Well let me dream.
Invariably there will be mistakes AND problems along this winding road to completion but like every good Civil Servant knows they will all be attributed to someone other than myself.
Happy Building and stay safe.
