When it comes to shaping Aluminium i fount that it is not that tricky, i watched a bunch of youtube videos, then brought a few sheets of ally from my local scrap metal yard , im a big fan of making my own tools too, so a log with a dish cut into it i built a small english wheel out of scrap metal from the scrap metal yard , buy a few old hammers , wooden domed malets, i was able to form some good shapes, i subsequently brought a shrinker stretcher and built a louver cutter , if you dont have a tig welder then riveting panels is the way to go, but use solid rivets rather than pop rivets, i made a rivet squasher out of a pair of bolt cropers.
When shaping metal dont over work it, between anealing cycles, and take your time, with aluminium if you bend it out of shape it is easy to shrink it back to the shape you want, and if your metal work is less than perfect then a little filler and a paint job will hide any imperfections, i find it is much better to shape a flat sheet into the shape you want rather than trying to find a preformed bit of metal ie a lampshade and trying to get it to fit your bodywork without it looking like a cut up lampshade riveted to your kart !!!.
But thats just my experance in shaping metal to build the body on my Austin seven, i would say get some scrap metal and have a go at shaping it, but have a watch of some youtube videos..
