you could use a spacer sleeve above the 30mm one, just to establish if the combination is somewhere near right.

I think you are right. I think that making such a spacer should be the next thing:  bit of tube with a large washer on the end? Is that what you had in mind?

cheers Stefan.

Thanks very much Chris. They will both fit, but I think the inner spring will be a lot shorter than the outer one. The outer one will need shortening a little (in the video you can see it bending over)

The thing is, if the inner spring doesn't compress unless the car is fully nose down, it won't do an awful lot until the last minute, will it?

Thank you, Stefan.
This set-up was one recommended by Chris Loader, which comes pre-bled, with a reservoir pre-fitted and filled. I got the disc and carrier from Gemini.

When you say its resting position moves forward each time, are you saying that as you use it you are distributing the oil in a way that wasn't adjusted by the manufacturer; that using it beds it in?

I prised the gap open with a flat screwdriver and found the wedge which came with it and put it back in. Presumably it is not designed to be activated without a disc in the gap? I guess the over-closing blocked a port or something?

I would welcome any advice

I haven't fitted my brake caliper. I am just fiddling with it, but the pads have closed the gap but not released! How do you get them to release?

Build journals / front suspension experiments
« on: 16 Oct 22, 07:53 pm »
Two springs make up the front suspension, an upper one and a lower one. But my range of springs is limited. I probably ought to work out the right spring mathematically, by weighing the car (with me in it) and by putting scales at the nose, using the rear axle as a pivot. But I just took a too long spring, compressed it and tried it. It isn't strong enough. Without me in the car it is nose-down. But it feels like real progress.
see my blog below to see video, which is too large to upload here

I was just telling Stefan, I still haven't seen a real Bedelia. I have just been interpreting videos and photos. I have been corresponding with the President of the society, Marc Périssé, owner of the green Bedelia in this videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwBtTsLsM_0&t=1s

chuffed to bits, as I am finally a member of the French based, Les Amis de Bédélia, which has members who own and also do not own (but desperately wish they did) a Bedelia, like me.

after the very huge privilege of being on the Sywell stand, and buoyed up by everyone's kind comments and advice, I am now working to finish the kart (as well as lay a floor and paint the house, which I promised Lucy would be priorities after Sywell)

Chris L gave me loads of guidance about brakes and on his recommendation, I have ordered a master cylinder + caliper set on ebay (with a reservoir) and a disc plus carrier from Gemini.

If anyone has some vintage style clothing please wear it on the stand for a more vintage look. Please no shell suits and cigars. Don't forget to bring all your forms including the indemnity one.

Hi Jim
Mine won't be very movable as it is not finished. I am bringing it without axles fitted and will fit them there (it won't go through the gate with them fitted!). And my front suspension isn't on, so the nose will have to be on a block of wood. Please just tell me where you want it plonked and hopefully it can just stay in that one place all weekend.

That really does look elegant, Jim

Look forward to seeing it at Sywell
