Where to get stuff / Re: Wheels

The chart shows a bearing 17 ID and 35 OD.  Do we think 17mm spindles OK?

Excellent!  Why do you say possibly problematic at 25mm dia.?  Earlier posts suggest a shim to get from 32 up to 35 or whatever? That’s no problem.
75mm is about right...I could always turn a wee bit extra if needed- the spindles get bigger towards the king pin.
And that’s the springs sorted!  Dave.

Rhys, you said earlier that you had spare springs...might you have a pair of 1/4 elyptics for a GN?

I’ve found some kart stub axles on eBay. 25mm dia.(!) they appear from crude measurements to have about 3 1/2 inches of 25mm dia. Is this enough for pit bike wheels?

Hello everyone.  It was good to meet up with you all at Stretton. I’m contemplating a build (!!) probably the GN thunderbug, but the V twin engine would be a nightmare!
Regarding the wheels, I would need Four as well.
What is the length of the hub on these wheels....ie what length of stub axle do you need?

Events / Potential venue in the north east
« on: 05 Feb 19, 01:22 pm »
Hi guys... We have an excellent facility up here ( co. Durham ). Check out North East Karting on google earth. It’s at Warden Law, near Durham.
Not only great circuit, bur has gravel ( I think ) circuit adjacent.
They have off road vehicles, land rovers etc, and paint balling (!).
I have leisure raced karts there in the past.
Different subject...is the CK activity only on tarmac in the UK so far?
Also, if only one wheel is driven, are most circuits clockwise in use?

I’ve checked out Bloody Mary. I wouldn’t say that was a true monocoque, it is still using longitudinal chassis rails, albeit made of wood.
I’m still keen!  What glue would we use? Something exotic, or ordinary woodworking glue?
I’m going to knock up an Autocad drawing!

What is the overall dia. of a 17 inch wheel...about 22 ?

Tech Forum / CK without a chassis?
« on: 30 Jan 19, 01:39 pm »
Hi guys...trawling through ck build pictures, I saw a body being built from very thin, 1/4 ply. Very well designed and braced, the builder was impressed with its torsional stiffness.
I was reminded of the Marcos sports cars of the 70’s. A structural ply box, with the suspension simply bolted on at each end.
Why not create two long side of the cart, whatever shape, with extensions front and rear to mount 1/4 elliptical and engine etc. Thinner ply extensions could be added to get the shapes required.
Additional thicknesses of ply at each end would give the mounting point for springs and dampers.
What do you all think?

Model boat builders bend wood using household cleaning products containing ammonia. this chemical makes wood go very flexible and easily bent. It may be suitable for ply?

Tech Forum / can you identify this?

Can anyone identify this vehicle?  The younger chappy is my grandfather ( i think ) but have no info whatsoever.  Could be the basis of a kart? dave.

This is the sketch that appears in the frazer nash book....the style precludes a rear engine.

Hi Rhys....I like it. Especially the widened tub. It’s the first I’ve seen that isn’t restricted by the chassis.
I will upload a drawing of an early GN soon. The layout would require a front engine. I believe you will have info on this subject? Dave.

Hi Guys.   I’m Dave Craig, living up in Newcastle.  I’ve been building street rods since the early seventies and stopped a few years ago when I finished off a Honda trike. Sold off now, I took up model boats. That led onto model yachts. Those have now been abandoned and have just bought an old GP 14 sailing boat.
My wife and I are learning to sail!
I only came across these karts a few weeks ago but am quite keen!
SWMBO has other thoughts however...so may not be able to build just yet!
Thanks for sending me the link Rhys...I am putting some thought together!
Having just read a book called  “the chain driven Frazier nashes” I think I have found my inspiration.
At 6-3, I’m quite tall, and not very agile. I suspect a long wheelbase will be needed.
