For sale and wanted / Re: TAV2 10T 420 sprocket
« on: 20 Mar 24, 06:18 am »
Hi Stefan, I have an unused 420 sprocket somewhere and could do with a 35 chain sprocket, but I need to find it!  Will let you know how I get on.  When do you need it by?
Thanks.  Next meeting will do.

I have a couple of 12T #35 chain sprockets for TAV2 torque converters and am after the "normal" sprockets for 40/420 chain ideally 10T.   Anyone need #35 sprockets or got 40/420 sprockets?

Help, advice please. Despite my best efforts my engine bay is still getting too hot, I am thinking of a fake filler cap to act as a chimney, possibly vented to stay in place or removable when racing, I had also thought of fitting a 12V computer fan on the underside to shift air out. The idea would be to switch fan on when static & off when moving.
Any comments Ideas appreciated.

Cheers Nick
My Bugatti uses a computer fan under a fake fuel filler hole.   It’s assisting the natural rise of the hot air.  I got the idea from Geoff May who used them on his real Austin 7 I think.

The various metal plates around these engines are important to keep the blown air passing through the fins.   They look naff and often get removed.

Tech Forum / Re: A different way to tackle a governor
« on: 28 Feb 24, 08:46 am »
I’ve tried all these techniques for removing the governor gear with very little success.  I soon realised that it is very simple and straightforward to remove the flywheel and tap the shaft through from the other side.  Having removed the gear and washer you simple tap the shaft back in to fill the unwanted hole.  In my experience a lot less swearing and damaged fingers.
I’d second this - works like a charm

Looking good.  Quick work too!  Re twitchy steering, if you’re using a Gemini front axle, a common and easy mistake is to put it in back to front.  It’s worth double checking it’s in the right way round with the bottom of the king pin further forward than the top.

Where to get stuff / Fire Extinguisher
« on: 13 Feb 24, 05:55 pm »
Given the requirement to bring a 2kg dry powder fire extinguisher to events, I thought it might be helpful is we had somewhere to share deals people find.

We could get them for just under £16 each if we buy 10 at a time from Simply Extinguishers.   CORRECTION no bulk order required but free shipping if you spend over £25 so ideal if you want 2.

Anyone found a good deal that doesn't need bulk purchase?

Hi Stefan, I've I've used the spacer plates from gemini along with adapter plates so I think that solves what you mention.
I did wonder about the keyway rubbing on the ends of the Bush, I partly assumed that if i made sure there was a clearance and snugged the grub screws on the keyway it wouldn't move? I'll be sure to do what you said anyway, better to be pro active than reactive lol.
Yes it's not an issue with the keyed side, but on the freewheel side the bush is rotating relative to the axle.  The "easing" of the keyway edge really only to dull the machined edge of the keyway - it only needs the tiniest of a radius.

Events / Online Builders Meet 30 Jan 2024
« on: 15 Jan 24, 02:56 pm »
The next online Builders Meet will be on Tues 30th Jan at 7pm.  We’ll be talking about some updates to the regs in the CKGB Handbook as well as options for making handbrakes.  I'm pretty certain we'll also talk about wheel track and the Gemini front axle.

If you have any questions or any building ideas you’d like to talk about, please email me (ckgbchair@gmail.com) and we’ll try to fit in as much as possible.

If you’ve been building cyclekarts for a while, then please come along to share your experience.  If you’re new to it all and can’t wait to get started, then this is your chance to ask lots of questions.

The meeting will be on Zoom and we'll post the link to join the meeting on here nearer the time.

Nice inspiration car and that colour will look great!

A couple of tips in case they are useful:
Most pitbike wheels with SDG hubs have a ridge on the face with the threaded holes.   Grind that flat or put washers between the hub and adapter plate so you don’t bend/snap the lugs with the threaded holes.

Ever so slightly ease the edge of the keyway on your rear axle where the  wheel and hub are otherwise it’ll shave your bushes 😳 and hub.

For sale and wanted / TAV2 10T 420 sprocket
« on: 10 Jan 24, 09:32 am »
Does anyone have a TAV2 10T sprocket for 420 chain they don't need?  I know a few people have switched to 219 chain and so fingers crossed someone's got one spare.  Thanks

If people are unable to view I'll repost the photos and change the links. May be a few days as busy at the moment.
Granville, it looks like you’ve linked to external images.  It’s better to just upload them onto the forum.
