U-bolts made and switched on front axle.  Brake hose connected and bled...but brakes not working yet (hmmm).  Steering column bearing added.  Crankcase gasket replaced and engine run for the first time.  Torque convertor fitted.  Bolts all checked and Nylocks added where needed.

The Comet sprocket is directly above the main sprocket so current method of adjusting the tension won't work without masses of movement.   The chain is either too loose, or now about 3mm too short so re-thinking the engine mount.  Won't be a complete rework but does need a little rethink.

One day soon we'll drive the thing...one day soon.

Marek and I have the same aim by the end of tomorrow.  Our body is not started but we’ve been doing all those little jobs that seem to take soooo long.  To do: new crankcase gasket, bolt on engine, connect and bleed brakes, attach chain, engine oil, fuel.

It would be helpful to see photos/sketches of people's throttle cable to carb linkage set-ups.

Took the governor off the engine today and started trying to figure out how to set up the throttle linkage  (all sketches/photos of other's set-ups welcome - I'll start a thread in the tech forum.)

If you’d watched me there wasn’t much finesse. Gettting the little circling off isn’t easy, hammer and long screwdriver. Once that was off then a decent pair of pliers and a bit of twisting and it was off
I took the governor out of mine today and combined the techniques:  Crankcase cover off.  Use a drift to knock the central pin in about 1mm.  This unseats the circular clip and the plastic gear pulls straight off.

Feeling foolish as I now realise the one I bought has the reservoir built in but is for ATV rear foot brake and hence is mounted vertically.

The hydraulic brake set I bought doesn't have a reservoir on it (see photo below) and I want to add one.  Are they a standard size and can I just take out the viewing glass and plug in a reservoir?

Anyone fancy meeting up at the British Motor Museum on Tues 19th Feb?   Sorry for the late notice but have only just been able to firm up a date in half-term?

If you happen to have a Tesco ClubCard, you get 3x the value to spend on entry (ie entry is a 1/3 of the normal cost).

OK its poll time.  I've add a picture of the 4 concept images with a letter next to each one.  In the next post there will be a poll for you to choose one of the 4.  The poll results will be published in 5 days.

Scroll to the top of this thread to find the poll (no, I don't know why it puts it there either!)

No lack of interest on my part...I've just seen ones that I like already.

Well we thought we had got away with putting the brake calliper too near the engine, but it just wasn't right and was making adjusting the engine position difficult.  So we cut the mounting bracket off and will re-position it some time this week.  The good news was that the welds seemed pretty solid - so my welding must be OK!  Lots of other jobs going on like cutting chain to length, cutting and fitting keys in the axle, planning engine cut-off switches etc....but nothing photo worthy.   The next milestone we're aiming for is a drivable chassis.

Tech Forum / 3D Printing - Boyce Motometer
« on: 06 Feb 19, 05:56 pm »
I thought I'd have a go at  3D modelling a Boyce Motometer.  I'm happy to share the original TinkerCAD "file" or an STL or OBJ file if anyone wants them.  I'm going to try and get it 3D printed.  Here's a quick render of the model.    Shapeways will print it in platinum for a mere $106,000!
