Some tips:
Read the Start Here page

Have a look at the Events section and come along to an event
Start a build journal - it’s great for others to see your progress and for you to ask for advice

Hello hello hello.

Based on the south coast, between Portsmouth and Southampton, general interest in engineering. No experience in cyclekarts, but have made a number of soapboxes and competed in the RedBull soapbox race 4 times, never built anything with an engine though! Not too shabby at MIG welding, as long as it's not tricky (box section good, tube bad). General metal fabrication is limited to whatever i can achieve with a wobbly drill press, and angle grinder and some hand tools, but i think that should be sufficient for a cyclekart by the looks of things. Not tried bodywork out of wood before, but have had a go at fibre-glassing, and get a bit better each time I swear I'll never touch the stuff again....

Definitely in the research & planning phase at the moment, probably with an aim of starting a build in spring 2023 (or 24,25,26...)

No fixed inspiration car yet, but leaning towards a Bentley at the moment...

Welcome to cyclekarting.   Enjoy the planning and research.   Sounds like you've got all the skills you need.   Keep the first one simple and you'll be driving around a track with a daft grin on your face in no time.

Brooklands Museum is not too far and well worth a visit for inspiration.   I'm near Junction 3 of the M3 if you want to have a poke around a real life cyclekart.
