Helping the builders who have yet to start
« on: 15 Mar 20, 12:55 pm »
Right now, as I write this there are 31 guests on line. Obviously that means there is a vast untapped number of folks who are showing interest.
On facebook I posted asking why those who had not started are yet to do so.
Clearly, with only about half a dozen responses, the reasons are not clear, but I am very keen to help folks into these incredible creations.
To that end, I suggest that perhaps we establish a "buddy system" where folks can feel they have some place to go to ask the questions they may be reluctant to ask.
There is only one stupid question, the one you never asked.
I don't know it all, for one thing I don't weld, but I am now building my eighth cyclekart, hopefully I have learned a bit along the way!
Please folks, don't be shy, ask for help, anything is valid, either on this forum, or message.
We must avoid torturing our brains with false problems, it occupies but it can annoy. In jest!

Though I'm on the fringe geographically, I'm only too happy to share what knowledge I have to help anyone who needs it. If there is anyone in South Wales who needs direct help then I'm quite happy to do that too.

I’m happy to offer practical help to builders in the Surrey/Berkshire/Hampshire area.

Good morning!  I have just joined the forum - please can someone point me to a any specs or regs concerning the construction/performance of a cycle kart eligible for UK events?  Many thanks, Richard.

Good morning Richard and welcome.

CK guidelines/rules can be found here... http://www.cyclekartsgb.com/what-is-a-cyclekart/what-is-a-cyclekart-and-rulesguidelines/

Or simply put, Honda GX200 or clone, allowed to go to stage 1 mods, so max 9.5 - 10 HP, I don't think any of us have actually felt the need to do this, all I've done is changed to a tuned exhaust to give a boost to low revs torque, and removed the screw that keeps it's revs to 3500, I think I get all of an extra 300 RPM! Others have changed carbs.

If I could suggest go with bog standard engine, drive the wheels off it, have a blast, and change things as and when you feel you must :-)

Hello everyone,

My name is David, 24 years old and I am living in The Netherlands.
I am currently building my own first cyclekart, but I have a question..
I see a lot of people using leaf springs, but I can’t find them anywhere.
Can someone help me finding the springs?

Regards,
David

Hi David, welcome to the Forum and good luck with building your CK. You will have a lot of fun I assure you. The Place a few of us have used for leaf springs is this https://www.midlandmotorsprings.com/specialist-springs
My own springs are semi elliptic, 500mm between eyes and 60mm arch. My Rear springs are stiffer than the front but I can't remember the sizes. I think Fronts are 38mm x 4.7 and the rears 38mm x 6.35
If you can drive round corners, you're not going fast enough.

As a general note that may help others struggling with components click on
'Forum '    'Where to get stuff'.  Like others, I'm very pleased to see so much current building activity.
In previous years (without covid) we have chosen a venue to hold a 'Builders Meet' at this time of the year. It looks doubtful again this year but if Omicron takes a quick turn for the better then perhaps we can arrange something at short notice.
