Smooth bore parallel is fine, no need of a taper, but each change in pipe cross section should be an increase. I've got an aluminium pit bike silencer on mine, but others use plain pipes and are within the noise limits for the tracks we use.

Thanks Chris. I shall have a look at those pit bike silencers. I definitely will want to fit something.
I'm not quite as green as I'm cabbage sounding.

Technically Stretton is 85 dB. 3 of the cars were in excess of 110. My understanding is that most places are regulated to 95. I asked about another kart circuit in the area north of the Cotswolds, they declined on the basis of the administrator having heard our cars.
Please don't take this lightly. I like noise too, but I don't want doors closed to us because there are heads in the sand. I am desperately trying to not be negative.
We must avoid torturing our brains with false problems, it occupies but it can annoy. In jest!

I was the really noisy one when Rhys did the noise test. I decided that I should comply and in future it will be a lot less noisy, maybe only 85db?
The reason I know how noisy its going to be is because today I paid the GX Tuning Store a visit. I learnt (or learned?) a lot about tuning (and quietening) these engines.
As far as exhausts go, have a look at what he produces. He is one of the authoritative sources of on this subject. I had welded three shortish sections of flexible exhaust pipe into one to suit the installation in the beast. It was just the job but not conducive to good performance (to say the least) and it looks a bugger too so its in the skip.
I bought a new exhaust header and a new muffler.
I put together a new engine for the Wee Beastie as you may know but its coming to pieces tomorrow to have some new bits fitted.
I will start a new thread on tuning the GX200 which will both clarify a few points, cost a bomb and cause others to think that it is unfair and against  the ethics of Cyclekarts GB.
