Using garden tractor parts

Has anyone used a garden tractor as a source of parts for their build?
Have option to buy one very cheaply with Briggs Stratton engine and wondered about using rear axle steering parts etc.
What are your thoughts?

I guess it would be possible to use an old lawn tractor but I think it could be a difficult route. The gearing, the engine vertical shaft and the width of the back axle could present extra problems that might be more trouble than it's worth.
