My Austin 7 special is mostly aluminum skinned, with minimal framing.

The sides of the body around the driver/passenger are 0.7mm thick, while the top panels and those around the engine are 1.2mm.

I wouldn't use less than 1.2mm for anything you might lean on!

You can see the minimal framing in one photo, in the other the 0.7mm panel is the silver one.

The thin sheet is folded around the frame where possible, and otherwise the edges are folded back on themselves (about 25mm).

I think it's called Patina  ;D

Probably some of the vehicles that we chose as inspirations , didn't have a great finish in their day.

Patina  :D
I agree. I hate the concours finish, and distressed ally looks great. When I did model aeroplanes, I would paint them silver first, then paint them a colour afterwards, then use tape to tear off patches of paint to make the surface look tired. I read an article in a hot rod magazine once about a guy using crushed cornflakes and resin to create a rust effect.  ;D
I don't want to bore you all with the details, here. But if you are interested, have a look at my blog https://peteskart.blogspot.com/

I measured the thickness of the original 1934 Morgan bonnet this morning, it's a touch under 1 mm, I'm guessing something available in gauge thickness. It's been mended a lot, but has survived close on 90 years! It certainly has patina, sadly can't be used in the rebuild though.
We must avoid torturing our brains with false problems, it occupies but it can annoy. In jest!

Mine has a multi-tube steel chassis/frame skinned with 20swg L165 aircraft grade aluminium (because there are several sheets of it in my workshop).  Aluminium will be rivetted onto the frame at a pitch of about 1".   I will start a build blog later this week hopefully, just so short of time at the moment.
