Leaf Springs
« on: 30 Mar 21, 10:36 pm »
Based on a previous postings regarding where to source leaf springs in the U.K., I made contact with the owner of Midland Motor Springs.
I have been advised that they are willing and able to manufacture springs to any specifications required however they are moving premises and will be up and running by the middle of April.
They will however be retaining the same contact number and/or can be contacted via there website.

I too have spoken to Midland Road Springs, however they did not really know what the spring was and asked for a drawing, can someone who has purchased springs from them provide a job number so as to make ordering a lot easier.

I have also spoken to Rossendale Road Springs who can make them to imperial measurements and require a sketch/drawing so what size hole is in the eyelet?

Details are in this post: http://www.cyclekartsgb.com/where-to-get-stuff/leaf-springs-eternal/

I ordered:
www.midlandmotorsprings.com £100+vat for a pair of springs with bushes (560mm centres, 5mm thick, 38mm wide, 80mm camber)

No job number at Midland Motor Springs but invoice number was 42751  (3/12/2018).  Pretty certain the contact was called Roger.

Thanks Stefan for the info, can you remember the  eyelet size for fixing to the chassis as I also want to send an enquiry to Rossendale Road Springs as well as Midland Motor Spring and get an uptodate price.

Chris, I will ask the question from both firms and will post information back here once I get it, but I do need to send them a sketch before they will quote.

Regards
Clive

I didn’t specify the eyelet but the hole in the bush in the eyelet was spec’ed at 12mm (they actually made them 1/2” which was frustrating - so worth being extra clear about that)

Btw, I asked Jones-springs for a price and they quoted £70 per leaf!

As Clive H is willing to undertake the task to make suitable enquiries as to costs from both suppliers, I am quite prepared to leave it with him, after all too many people making numerous enquiries only muddies the waters.

My springs are slightly different but seem to work well. They are 20" eye to eye and the eyes are 3/4 id. 1.5" wide 3/16 thick. The axle mounting hole is 5/16" diameter and set forward 9"-11"

They came from midland road springs and I think had a 2 1/2 drop from the middle of the eye.

Thanks for the info Jim, I take it that we are talking about the same place, ( Midland Springs ). If that is the case perhaps Clive H could reference your purchase when he makes contact again with Midland Springs. Team effort etc, yes.

Just to clarify, how many leafs are there, one or two ? Would help if someone could post a picture of their springs from Midland Motor Springs.

Then I can produce a sketch and send off for quotes.

Just catching up on the subject of The leaf springs and I note that you ( Clive H ) and myself, are NOT talking about the same suppliers. StefanN and I are talking about a Company called Midland Motor Springs of Nottingham. You, like Jim, would appear to have made contact with a different business namely Midland Road Springs of Sutton Coldfield.
Perhaps this is the reason why Midland Road Springs know nothing about StefanN’s order?

It could have been midland motor springs that I used. It was a while ago but I think they were Nottingham based.
