Hi, I appear to have posted a cry for help on the wrong string so apologies for that.
I am trying to source tyres for the wheel rims I recently bought. The rims are Honda C90’s the front being 1.20 X 17” and the rear being 1.40 X 17”, so the question in, “where will I get period looking tyres to fit these rim sizes”.
I have tried various supplies via eBay but without success as I appear to get contradictory info on what will or will not fit.
Any and all suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Scotty

I was surprised at the range of widths that will fit on a given rim.  Andy Boulton was/is selling tyres for a good price.   From memory they are 2.1" which would fit both those sets of rims.   Others have more experience on the C90 wheels, but I've run 2.5" up to 3.25" on my pit bike rims which are nominally 1.6 or 1.8 I think.

As for the period look, I've not found any that capture the Blockleys look.   My wheels came with knobbly tyres - they looked rubbish!

I'm running CST 17 x 2.5 tyres which I got from Demon Tweeks, I have 1.4 inch rims on the front and 1.6 inch on the rear and the 2.5 inch tyre is fine on both.  But, like Stefan I have not seen any tyres that have a nice period look, also I have no experience of 1.2 inch rims.

I keep experimenting with mine.

Last Oct when it was wet, I tried 20 front and 34 rear and then dropped to 16 at the front (3.25" front, 2.75" rear)
In August in the dry I was on 22 front and 28 rear (3.25" front, 2.5" rear)

Has anyone tried Michelin M45 17-250 tyres?   They look like they've got a flatter tread section and so look more car-like than most bike tyres....but of course will depend what they look like on a wheel.

The profile is like this I think.
If you can drive round corners, you're not going fast enough.

Hi Stefan / Jim,  Yes they certainly look the part, with the block style tread.

Other manufactures do a similar classic bike pattern , but it seems to be justifying the price of £40 upwards,  a corner.

Guess if it looks more authentic , then why not !!

Wonder if we could get a bulk buy deal perhaps or have you found a retailer selling them at a sensible price ?

I suggest Motorcycle Parts in Walsall. Really nice people, very fair prices and a great selection of sizes and styles.

They looked flatter in the photo I found so maybe not quite what I was hoping for.
I’ll see if I can find one to try without too much cost.

Interestingly , because our wheels are bolted solid in an upright position, they do seem to wear down flatter across the tread profile , the more we use them.

I am quite pleased how my Dunlops have "bedded in" this year .......Its true they have been given a pasting ....Oops

How are your Dunlops looking,  Stefan ?

My tyres have also bedded in nicely. I think there's still another season in them. Cst tyres.
