Tech Forum / Re: Ackerman - with Gemini front axle

Some suck it and see then!
I’ll set it up straight to begin with, with an eye to making adjustable rack positioning possible.
Thinking of my mental health, hoping I don’t get it wrong and suffer Ackermanic Depression!

Thanks Gents.
I’m using a rack. not pitman arms.

Tech Forum / Ackerman - with Gemini front axle
« on: 08 Dec 25, 01:54 pm »
I’m planning to have an 1800mm wheelbase on my CK.
I’m told that the Gemini complete front axle, with kingpins and steering arms is set for a 1675mm wheelbase (with 1/8” toe-in)
Will going to 1800mm mess up the steering/handling - or is it not that critical?

Thanks Gents - clear.
I guess the Americans want their chassis rails higher for some reason?

I’ve looked at various You Tube builds (mainly American) and they show cut outs in the top of the chassis to allowing placement/removal of the complete differential and axle from above. See photo
It occurs to me that it would be easier to place and remove the axle from below. I can’t see that it would be any stronger or weaker either way………but am I missing something?

Where to get stuff / Re: A new Peerless 110 Differential

Very useful - thanks.
Gemini currently do 60T & 70T sprockets to fit the Peerless 110, so would probably opt for the 60T to save a little space and ‘play’ with the jackshaft/TAV sprockets using the calculator.

Thanks Jim, appreciated.
If I opted for a ‘conventional’ jackshaft for positioning the drive to the diff (with the engine to the rear of the axle) - can I go in sprocket sizes:
10T on TAV
10T x 2 on jackshaft
70T on diff?
Concerned if 10T on the TAV to 10T on the jackshaft works? I don’t see any reason why not……but you or others may know otherwise?

Thanks Jim
Hope I haven’t messed up the drawing too much looking at it!?
Seems like a good solution from Gemini, avoiding an extra jack shaft and cogs.
Any downside to having the engine the ‘other’ way round in your opinion?

Has anyone built a CK yet with the Peerless 110 differential, the Gemini layshaft and the engine facing forwards as in Jimr1999’s png diagrams?

Hi Konrad,
I'm just measuring up for my Cyclekart (Aston Martin - Green Pea) and would appreciate a copy or link to the Sketchup tutorial and GX200 model

Hi Stephan,
I’ve just ordered a set, so also interested in spoke tightening torque.

Hi again Jim,
Look good - any problems to use these apart from a bearing change (readily available bearings that is)

Sounds good Jim, thanks.
Grateful if you’d let me know what you receive and any likely complications in fitting them.
