Tech Forum / Starter battery requirement
« on: 11 Mar 26, 06:32 pm »
Just wondering what people's opinions/recommendations for batteries to run the starter motor.  I think the recommendation is 18a/h, seemed a bit overkill to me but electrics are my weakest skill. So I'd like to know what others can tell me. Also is there any amount of self charging or do you need to keep the battery topped up between meets.

Following you vids Jim, looking good! I'll be interested to see how well the pull start works, I had a little go on my kart with it running down some curved copper pipe but there was too much binding and leverage at the bend and didn't work so I gave up on it.

So started to plank out the body, will do the inner body and then add the pods on each corner. Planking is done in two layers overlapping the top with the bottom layer.

I think anything we build will have individuality compared to another based on the same car, as it happens I'm building a Mercedes W125 for and with Dean at the moment and Jay is also building one but I'm sure they'll be totally different. Jay did let me know when he found out we were building the same and were both totally fine with it.

Progress is coming along no thanks to the weather. fiberglass nose was a success whether it was the best option I don't know, only because  I had to mould it in situe because I needed it to fit around the chassis and I could not get the fiberglass to stay in place with a release agent because of gravity, so I did not use any which worked but made it a pain to get off. So as it is now controls are all in with my modded pedal box and a pull handbrake from a Hilux, finishing making the rest of the ply formers ready to cover in strip wood then fiberglass.

We're happy with the front now so we'll get on and cover in fiberglass, once set we'll remove the clay and foam then we'll be left with a removable nose cone.

So ply cockpit made this time around, modified auto pedal box from something and made a start on sculpting a buck for the fiberglass nose cone.
