Tech Forum / Jack shafts
« on: 28 Jan 26, 11:36 am »
I have seen lots of enquiries about Jack shafts, this is my set up which has been running for over a season now and hasn't failed yet.
The shaft is made from 5/8 bright steel with a keyway milled in it. This takes the standard TAV sprockets which drive the main axle sprocket . I made an adapter for the driven sprocket to take sprockets from a Honda monkey bike available cheaply from ali express 22 to 35 teeth. The adapter allows the sprocket to be changed quickly allowing for a range of gear ratios. The Jack shaft is mounted on its own frame with pillow blocks and hinged at the bottom this provides easy tensioning of the final drive train. The TAV to Jack shaft chain is tensioned by moving the engine as normal.

I have taken 2 different cast flywheels to 7k and they both stayed in one piece, 1 Lifan and 1 Kohla. I also did some calculations to see if the steel cover would contain the bits in the event of a failure, there were some assumptions made but I satisfied myself it would. You seem to have confirmed that . Blowing engines up is all part of the fun , I have done 1 each season so far 😜

Tech Forum / Petrol vaporisation and overheating
« on: 20 Aug 25, 03:29 pm »
After a lot of problems with overheating causing petrol vaporisation,  i think I have it cured. An aluminium heat sink/shield sandwiched between the manifold and carb insulator. It seemed to work last weekend and the engine ran without fault.
