Build journals / "The Rat" finished. 1928 BAC Special

Mainly finished, Engine tweaks and first test drive to do, the dummy V Twin came together after sourcing two Villiers piston pots and heads although not a perfect match but close, they were all rusted and alloy heads anodised, a sand blast brought them back to looking almost new.
It's now cross fingers for the test drive

Hi Pred
Love those Shelsley special type hill climbers - your builds looking great.
I too decided to build another kart based on Nigel Davenport's Spider.
I'm say 30% through the build but my first job was to build the V twin engine.
I used bits of plywood : aluminium offcuts : plastic waste fittings : Asda rolling pins and yoghurt pots together with bits and pieces laying about the garage (spark pugs and leads etc. )
one or two photos attached. The barrels are ali and plywood discs with a long through bolts. (wish I'd thought of putting the engine there !! )
O Bri I love your mock up V Twin it looks so good and authentic, nice job
Bri

This is my second Build, a Cyclekart of this design has been done in the US by Kelly Wood and to me looked really interesting, so I'm having a go. It's going to be cooked balls or wear a cricketers box lol
What front springs have you used Pred ?
Hi Tim, got a pair from an old trailer cut them down to size, cost me £20

Tomorrow I will be running round a karting track, with a drilled out jet and another 3 in hand of different bores, will report outcome and I do hope I will find a sweet running one.
Thanks for the above replies

Jon, Ian thank you both for reply, I will check out all above, Ian my set of jets were also Chinese ones numbers same as you had, and your theory makes a lot of sense as to what happens to mine
Fuel starvation would make perfect sense.
Thank you both

Tech Forum / Engine stalling
« on: 04 May 25, 06:51 pm »
Hi guys,
I have a brand new Hyundai Engine, I have replaced Carb with same but it has a fuel filter and mixture screw, changed jet to a 0.38"/96mm and emulsifier to one with bigger holes, has an open air intake to outside, it starts great, idles great, revs and runs fine. But after a few 100 yards it splutters/stals as if it was running out of fuel, it re starts with just one or two pulls, no problem.
I've taken car bowl off, lifted float and fuel runs out fine and clean.
I've changed and tried many jets and this one sounds and runs better than the others, set mixture screw to what I think sounds sweet.. I had this issue at Stretton played with mixture screw at home and thought it was better, had a good location today at an old Airfield but kept going off after a stretch.
I'm Stumped as what to try next, any suggestion greatly appreciated. Regard Pred

Martin has now got a running Chassis's and will soon be on his body work, he's also awaiting response for his race number !
