I too was in a similar position, but there’s loads of YouTube videos and help on the forum that should cover everything required.  I kept things as simple as possible for my first build, with the main aim being just to make something that would work.  The inevitable second build is where you can experiment and get more creative!

Hi Andy, am I too late to book a place on this event, subject to swapping my day off at work?

Hello Ian - put me down as Marshall for this event.  Current thinking is my kart won’t quite be ready in time!

Hi Stefan - you missed my request for number 14 which has now been issued, which is no big drama.  Can I have 999 instead for my 1926 Miller Locomobile Junior 8 Special?  She should be complete for the spring all being well.

Evening, Stefan, can I reserve number 14 for my 1926 Miller 122 Locomobile Junior 8 Special?  Currently under construction and aiming to be ready around spring time.

Apologies for the slow reply but I only just spotted this!!  I have a love of most things old and retro, particularly mechanical things and especially old cars.  I’ve owned a few classic cars over the years which I enjoy some very basic tinkering with, with my latest being a 1966 Volvo Amazon.

My job is in no way any assistance with building a cyclekart, either in terms of skills or equipment, and I am sure to have a million questions about even the most basic things.  At the moment I’m gathering a few basic items, reading a lot of articles and watching as many videos as I can so I feel confident I can finish what I start.

I live in a little village just outside Bath and will look to come along to an event or build day soon so I can get some more ideas and inspiration.  The idea is my son, who is 17, and I will do the build together as a joint project, although I get to choose the inspiration car because it will be me paying for everything!

Thanks for the replies, helpful and encouraging.  After some proper measuring I’ve actually got 7’7” to play with, so should definitely be easy to lose six inches!!

Tech Forum / Overall length of kart
« on: 15 Oct 24, 09:04 pm »
Evening all, I’m very interested in trying to build one of these karts and have spent the last few weeks researching and reading all about them.  My question is regarding the overall length of people’s karts.  The Stevenson model shows an overall length of approximately 7’10” or 2430mm if you prefer.  For transporting any finished kart I have a Nissan Elgrand that, with the middle seats removed, would have a rear load space of around 7’ or 2133mm, maybe a bit more if I have my knees around my ears!

Is it realistic to try and build a kart around 7’ maximum?  Just to make it easier I’m quite tall at 6’2”!

I’m considering a Hudson Super Six special with a removable tail to assist with fitting in the Nissan - so the seven foot would be from front to rear of the exhaust.

What are people’s thoughts and suggestions?
