Tech Forum / Re: Starter battery requirement
« on: 11 Mar 26, 07:13 pm »
Chris
in my Lifan gumph it says 12v 18ah min battery so I bought a Yuasa 22ah golf trolley / electric wheelchair battery - a nice product but very heavy. I can just pick it up with one hand !
However over at the builders meeting at Steves recently, he has a small motorcycle battery of around 9ah if I remember and he said it worked fine.
So a fraction of the cost and weight - I suppose the bigger battery will keep it's charge longer.

Hi Pred
Love those Shelsley special type hill climbers - your builds looking great.
I too decided to build another kart based on Nigel Davenport's Spider.
I'm say 30% through the build but my first job was to build the V twin engine.
I used bits of plywood : aluminium offcuts : plastic waste fittings : Asda rolling pins and yoghurt pots together with bits and pieces laying about the garage (spark pugs and leads etc. )
one or two photos attached. The barrels are ali and plywood discs with a long through bolts. (wish I'd thought of putting the engine there !! )
