Build journals / 1929 Mercedes SSK
« on: 14 Sep 25, 11:17 am »
So, having visited Jon Pearce and with the intention of visiting Jeff Heath soon, I have selected the 1929 Mercedes SSK as my inspiration. It will conform to the Stevenson formula/published rules. A photo of a Mercedes SSK and a line drawing are attached. I've started building a jig, with the next step being the chassis, much simplified, after I've drawn up a half scale side view drawing on a roll of wallpaper.

I'll post a photo of the jig as soon as it is complete and the chassis once I get going. I hope to have a rolling chassis by next spring although that may be ambitious given quite an intrusive job needed on the Marlin Sportster.

Hi Jon, Are you free at all next week?. I could visit on any day except the Tuesday when I am currently off to Portsmouth. Might be best to agree any details via john@junofleetservices.co.uk
Looking forward to seeing a cyclekart up close!
Regards, John

Hi Jay, About to embark on a build, probably based on a simplified Mercedes SSK. Do you have a drawing of your chassis that you would be prepared to share? Thanks, John

Hi Jon,

John

Good evening,

My name is John and I live in Kemble near Cirencester, Gloucestershire. I have built/owned 3 Marlin kit cars and rebuilt/owned 2 vintage cars, a 1929 Buick and a 1932 Morris. Space means that I am down to the Marlin Sportster. I was looking at a new project, either another kit car or rebuilding another vintage car but cost and space are against me. I was in Malvern a week or so ago at the National Kit Car show and came across the Cyclekarts. Perfect! Small, almost vintage and lowish cost.

I'd like to start with a simple chassis so that I can get something on the road by next year so any suggestions welcome. I'd also welcome the opportunity to visit anyone nearby to talk through the various design aspects of a cyclekart.

John
