Apologies if this has been asked before.  I looked but couldnt find the answer.

What is the best way to attached the plywood tub to the chassis? I'm planning on dropping the tub by 100mm below chassis rail, and wondered if i'd be better off welding on some steel supports to the side of the chassis (extending down 100mm) to drop the tub onto?

Or do people bolt through the plywood into the side rails chassis ?

hello all,

I'm seriously considering my first cyclekart build. I've been reading here for a good while after seeing some of you at the kit car show in malvern. I have a vehicle in mind, a 1904 Napier 6 Cylinder (Samson) partly chosen because I fancied that the copper pipe bodywork might be easier to achieve than a painted fibreglass body of a later car with sweeping lines and curves.

I've had kit cars for a long time but never built one as i've not really got any real fabricating/engineering skills. I have a fairly logical approach to problem solving and am reasonably practical however.

My plan with this build would be to go down a well trodden route in terms of chassis/steering/drivetrain and simply copy what has been done before in that respect.

I wondered if for those of you who had never tackled anything like this before, what were the parts you found the most challenging about your build? what presented the steepest learning curve? Did you get stuck at any point?

thanks

thank you, yes that makes sense. I suppose when you reach the point that it requires more work then steel section, (unless you have lots of sopare racking hanging around) it isnt worth doing

Has anyone ever made a chassis from this sort of racking? I was wondering if it would work to make a weld free chassis? https://www.bigdug.co.uk/bigdug-pallet-racking-system/v/ENPTDC1311_1/?ppcp_platform=bing&msclkid=ee52fad12c5f1ef758dd939006ecddcd&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=[BD]%20-%20CSS%20Shopping%20-%20All%20Products&utm_term=4578778762952960&utm_content=All%20Products

thanks

hello all,
thank you for letting me join. I got very interested in Cyclekarts this summer having seen you all at the malvern kit car show. I'd very much like to build one but currently wondering if i have the skills (i'm very much a kit car buyer and driver rather than builder!) Currently reading all the build threads and learning as much as I can. I'm based in Nottingham.
