Tech Forum / Jackshaft sprocket mounting
« on: 06 Dec 25, 08:53 am »
There’s quite a lot of talk about jack shafts on the forum at the moment.

I would be interested to read/see people’s experience of fitting small sprockets on jack shafts:

What size jack shaft have you used?
What’s the smallest sprocket you’ve used on the jack shaft?
How have you attached the sprocket to the jack shaft (photos)?

Hi Nick,
Not considered this before.  I’ll raise it next time the committee meets.

I presume you mean a key switch on the dash?

Can I bring my dog? He is a friendly greyhound.
Regards
Michael
Hi Michael,   Great - see you on  Saturday.   There's a resident dog, so sadly it's a no to your hound.  Don't forget to join the WhatsApp group.  Thanks

Tech Forum / Re: Gemini "C" front axle
« on: 09 Oct 25, 07:40 am »
Can’t answer directly, but if you look along the axle from one end, the  kingpin tube will be set at an angle to the plane of the axle.  The bottom of the kingpin tube will be to one side of the main axle and that’s the side that needs to face forwards.

It makes the line through the axis of the steering hit the ground ahead of where the wheel contacts the ground.  This is called caster.

Build journals / Re: Grafton or other Edwardian?
« on: 11 Sep 25, 08:26 am »
The Stevenson approach, by which I assume you mean a structural plywood box with chassis rails, is a great way to start and makes for a light cyclekart.   This approach is well trodden and is recommended for first builds so more people are successful.  It’s far from mandatory, and being a creative/independent/?stubborn crowd, cyclekarters often use different techniques.  The important reference point is the handbook which sets out the parameters.

Looking forward to getting your outline plans.
